Let’s not nit-pick or get defensive. You are detracting and missing the spirit of the message.
Dr. Strum’s wording on this point is perfect:
“…is willing to travel and/or incur additional expenses…”. He doesn’t say
you have to travel to the moon or bankrupt yourself. Don’t miss the point.
Strum’s point here, however, is about
the “willingness” to travel…and in fact just about
all his points are about
a patient’s
“willingness” to adapt their spirit and attitude in such a way that
tilts the odds in the patient’s favor. It’s all about
the little things that one
can do to increase the odds. Don’t want to change your diet/lifestyle?…that’s ok; just know that it’s just one more of the things you could do to tilt the odds. I’ll reiterate this important point – we all make our own decisions.

But the fact of the matter is that the vast majority, significant travel time to a top cancer center in the US in not a barrier…they have placed the centers where the most people are. 75% of the US population is within a 90 minute drive of at least one of the NCCN’s Comprehensive Cancer Centers.
