My husband, aged 68, had
open RP six weeks ago on Dec 9 (G8). He managed his information intake carefully, but I devoured this forum greedily, as if I was the one with the cancer. I asked a couple of questions here pre-op but mostly just read and learned.
His surgery was successful and his pathology showed clear margins and no lymph node involvement, for which we are very grateful. He ended up in the ER a couple of times, including Christmas morning (tip: go early) with a LOT of blood and clots in his urine, but after four weeks that issue seemed to just resolve itself.
I spent a lot of time in this forum both before and after his surgery. Thanks to all I learned here, I felt better prepared to assist him (the 5 gallon bucket = brilliant) and to help him with useful information. Even tonight I logged in and saw a question that has been bothering him, too, and shared the answer which made total sense.
So, thank you to all who post regularly, newcomers and veterans alike. I'm grateful for this online support and community, even though I'm mostly a silent member. I'll keep checking in, partly to learn more and partly because I feel invested in your struggles and successes.
With a grateful heart ...
