Hi,
My name is Lee and I am a newcomer. I am trying to find those that have taken Provenge and their thoughts. Pro's & Con's.

We've had quite a bit of discussion about Provenge although the topic is not as active now, here on the forum, as it was a few years ago. You might try using the search function to find some of that information. Look for the search box and button at the top of this screen and try searching for "Provenge". We also have a member named Todd who appears in some of the ads as a Provenge success story. You might also try searching for "Provenge Todd" to read about his experiences.

Welcome to the forum Lee. I did Provenge about six months ago.
Pros: three sessions and it's over. Not painful and no side effects (for me at least).
Cons: very costly. Make sure you are covered. Also you might have to travel to a clinic where they do Provenge.

I really can't say if the treatment helped or not. Since my PSA is still less than 1, let's give some credit to Provenge.

My Urologist is trying to get me approved for Provenge since my PC has become metastatic. His plan of action is to start with Provenge 1st and add others as we go.

Welcome to this forum that nobody ever thought of belonging to.
I had provenge therapy last June. I had to every other tuesday at 7:30am go to the local red cross since they had the machine that takes white cells out of my blood. I was in the infusion chair for three hours. I believe it was 18 gauge needles they used, I gotta say those suckers did hurt going in and taking them out. One in my left forearm that drew out the blood and then into the lab machine then pumped back into my right forearm. My arms were tied down and I was asked not to move my arms with the needles in them. My wife was there to scratch my nose. They plugged in a movie that I watch in 3 hours it was over. Then that friday I was at my uro office to infuse the t-cells back into me over about 1 1/2 hours. Then missed a week to let my veins heal then then next week then skip then a third time. The last time they infused me I got sick as a dog that night. But the next day I was ok. Has the therapy worked? dont know. But I gotta believe the T-cells did kill cancer cells that is the way it was designed. Doc said one time and done. Somebody here said they got a second round. If it worked for a while all good but my psa just doubled to 14 so who the heck knows.

All the information I can obtain is very helpful as you know and I appreciate you taking the time to get back to me. I have a better idea of what to expect.

Like yourself, my urologist is going to use this as a 1st step in my treatments since my Gleason 8 has also metastasized. Not a club we want to be in, but the cards we were dealt.
