What is the correlation between prostate DNA testing and circulating tumor cells, or is there any correlation? Just got back lab results from DNA testing three weeks ago with the simple statement from the doctor "good news - no prostate cancer DNA detected". Don't get me wrong I'm glad for any good news - but from all that I've read I am not "cancer free".

I'm confused. Do you mean DNA testing of CTC's? That's pretty new - they examine the CTCs for evidence of AR-V7 or EGFR, instead of just counting them. The count (>5 per 7.5 ml) is not all that good - there can be lots of CTCs that are incapable of metastasizing. Or do you mean something like a Decipher, Prolaris or OncotypeDx test of biopsy cores?

A blood test was taken and with the explanation that "typing" of the cancer DNA could provide future treatment options. Blue Cross Blue Shield paid the $2,500 DNA testing.

Blood test - so it had to be a CTC DNA test. I'd be interested in knowing which types they were searching for when you get the report. But that's great that it didn't detect whatever they were searching for.
