In this case a "negative" is a wonderful thing. We are all hoping for the best for you. If the result is a positive, and he suggests surgery, ask him for a recommendation of a radiation oncologist for you to see also, so you can explore the option of radiation therapy. If your Gleason score is 6, ask if "active surveillance" would be appropriate in your case. You will have heard of people learning they have cancer and then having surgery days later. That is not the case with prostate cancer. Treatment can wait a while, and you will have time to think through your options. Go with your spouse or other loved one/friend, and ask them to take notes.
