I just thought I would put it out there....after reading on a post that one forum member just got a Fender Jaguar and how much he loves it...(great guitar)

I've been a musician and singer since I was 12 and then became a recording engineer (the industry is dead so that isn't so great)

But music as therapy is wonderful.

Would like to hear from other forum members who sing and play and let them know to keep the music flowing.

Since most members are around boomer age I think many of you would dig the music that I have recorded. Very 60's pop like Beach Boys/Beatles/Byrds and very vocal oriented.

I wrote/recorded and played all the guitars and some vocals. Harmony is wonderful.

By the way....for those who know..Fuzzboxman is from the word fuzzbox...which is a little pedal box that makes your guitar sound like a wall of thunder. It sounds like it could be like a perverted guy...into fuzzy boxes if you know what I mean. Well...most of us are into those too....but lets not get perverse.

I would think most under 80 would know what a fuzzbox actually is.

Anyway....would like to hear from any musicians/vocalists and remind them that music is a great healer....would like to hear your tunes as well.

Going in for my one year biopsy next week to confirm that my low grade cancer is still.....low grade.

So I've been singin' up a storm.
I'm 63 but rehearsing with a full band and plan to play live soon.

PS. I find it amusing that the members of this forum (and all the others) post their stats and history at the bottom of each post. Psa history, biopsies, gleason score...

While on the recording forums...like Gear****z...the members post the specs of their digital recording equipment....OS, chipset, Audio interface, computer info etc...in exactly the same way.

Of course dealing with highly sophisticated technology can be difficult and frustrating...its not life threatening though. It might be amusing but I understand these stats on this forum are no joke. Its serious business....but keeping a sense of humor about everything is a good way of dealing with some of the more horrifying aspects of life.

I am an excellent audience member. I know how to listen and when to clap.

I am also really good at buying concert tickets, CDs, and downloading from iTunes. I can operate CD and MP3 players.

I'd be a great member of the audience for your band...

singer-songwriter guitar guy here- 30+ song performance set with 11 originals and mix of covers and traditionals (bluegrass/old time) at this time- adding new songs all the time-

music for ~ 2 hrs each day- the one thing, besides my wife, that I know can always make me forget about things for a while and just be happy in the moment.

I'm heading out to a big band gig tonight. And yeah, music is a magic elixir. Plus it keeps me out of trouble. Otherwise I'd be out tipping over Smart cars or something.

I have songs that have jazz influences. Guitarist and keyboard player I work with are really good with that sound. Also Jazz and R&B.

I like using Bossa Nova type sounds in pop songs. Fusing Bossa Nova and Folk Rock.

You certainly can go off into your own world when doing a solo.

Sometimes I do; that's my problem. ;-)

I grew up playing a lot R&B, jazz, funk and pop. Now I mostly play jazz (too old now for the other stuff, I guess). If you come to GFMPH some time we can play some tunes. That'd be fun.

That is true...

I've read the energy and connection in a group of people singing harmony....like in a Church choir...or pop group that has great harmonies...Beach Boys/Mamas & Papas/Beatles....

Its kind of like group meditation....there is an energy in the room and everyone is connected.

Plus the blending of voices is such a pleasant sound.

I would love to be a singer or musician, but it was never to be. As a kid at a small country school in Scotland with only about 50 pupils, the entire school made up the choir - except for 3 kids and I was one of those three. We made up the band. One on a drum, one with a tambourine and I got the triangle.

Later on I did have piano lessons and I can sort of play a keyboard provided I have the music in front of me and 3 weeks to practice. If it is more complex than Happy Birthday, I'll need 6 weeks. No chance of playing anything "by ear".

Love music of all kinds and would love to have the skill of a musician, but I'm afraid I will always be in the audience rather than on the stage.

I tried the Taylor guitars and was looking at the model you have. The neck is too wide for my comfort. I got an epiphone masterbuilt dmr 500 acoustic I think it is. Love it. Better neck than most electric guitars and I've had them all.

I used to play lead guitar in every band I was in and did all the guitars on my recordings. Now I concentrate on rhythm and singing lead also. I'm really into singing lead now. The guitar and keyboard player sing harmony. Sometimes its in key.

I get together with my piano playing friend Paul once or twice a week or more to sing. We graduated from the basement to the garage now that the weather is (a little) better (N.E. is damp and cool so far this Spring).

I went up to Boston yesterday with him to Beth Israel to have fiducial markers placed in prep for SBRT. My friend Paul was the driver for the trip from Cape Cod. We stopped for a couple of beers and pizza on the way home and went to his garage for a session. We have been doing this for about 4 to 5 years now. Always fun and a great release.

Here's something rather interesting I read, that's sort of related.

The title of the article linked below is "Music Produces Pleasure in Similar Way as Drugs, Sex." Point of article: music acts on opioid receptors in the brain in a way like drugs and sex do.

In an experiment, test subjects who took an opioid suppressant before listening to music didn't find the music as appealing as those who did not take the suppressant.

That is, as article says:

"… music creates pleasure in part by acting upon the brain’s opioid system."

It also states that

"People consistently rank music among the top 10 things that bring the most pleasure, usually ranking it above money, food or visual art …in that sense, it can be viewed as a healthy addiction.”

Healthy addiction or not, there's no doubting that music has been a major source of pleasure for us since the beginning of humankind.

There's also much evidence that even animals are positively affected by it.

Was in band until 9th grade until I gave up the slide trombone (still have it) for a football helmet during high school. Was in boys ensemble in high school. Now just sing to myself and around the house. With a not so very pleasant child hood, singing and music was a great escape. Would love to know how to play an instrument, but am a one handed piano player so can only play the melody on some songs on the piano.

My wife is a different story, she was as voice/music major in college, taught high school chorus, taught private voice and piano at our home, sung in many weddings and funerals with her soprano voice. She's retired from teaching but is the choir director at our church.

Songs can bring back such memories!

I am a listener only, zero musical talent or ability. Unless I am driving, I never listen to music. In the car, its just for some background noise, only listen to SAT radio, as I hate commercials.

However, all 3 of my kids are gifted in music. Both boys have their own rock band together, then they are each in another one separately.

My daughter learned to play piano on her own around age 12. So at age 14, got her a teacher. This is a true story, after her 4th lesson, the teacher told us that there was nothing more she could teach her. At age 36 now, she plays for crowds when she gets a chance. In high school, she would play at various large hotels, blindfolded, and could play whatever was requested while blindfolded.

They sure didn't get any of this from me.
