New member, JMC, posting for father, Gleason 9, recent RP.

Hi everyone,
My 73 year old father is recovering from a RP, is T2CN0, Gleason 9, perineural invasion and from what I can gather, is Stage IIB Gleason Group 5. He has not been for his 6 week post surgery PSA test yet. Is there a subgroup within this forum of people in a similar position? I found the information here so helpful and encouraging prior to his surgery and now that we know the specifics of his situation I would like to be able to ask more focused questions. Thank you!!

We do have a thread for Gleason 9 and 10 guys. I've added you to our roster. It's worth reading. Lots and lots of names, most of them guys who are doing OK. The roster is in the fourth comment, I think.

I hope your father is recuperating from surgery. Many G9 guys have not had RP, but some like PDA have. I'm sure you will find useful information and testimonials to pass along to your Dad. Let us know how he is faring and what his post surgery PSA ends up reading.

Thank you so much! Yes, it was unusual to have the RP and we hope it was the right decision. So happy to meet you all, albeit under unpleasant circumstances

Ask all the questions you want. Great bunch of knowledgeable folks here.

Yes it's an unusual choice, but it's also possible that it just might be the right thing. Best not second guess yourself too much. Go with the choice and see where it leads.

Thank you for your response! We will receive the Post op PSA numbers around mid July. So much will be determined then. Has anyone here had an initial diagnosis of Gleason 9 and then had a RP?

Also, what are your thoughts about perineural invasion?

Your Dad's case is unusual for two reasons.
Gleason 9 with perineural invasion (you already knew that)
His age. He must have been in great health because surgery isn't usually done on guys over 70.

Whatever, it's time to look forward, not backwards (as InTheShop already wrote). I hope that your Dad's recovery will be uneventful and that the follow-up PSA results will show very low numbers.
