Hey I put up with a lousy urologist for 4 years. Here's a word of advise if your not completely happy with your Doctor go get another one. I finally ditched the jerk I had and found a new Urologist who is fantastic. Changed my whole outlook going forward lifted me out of a deep depression. Don't put up with Doctors who don't make you feel right. Thanks -- Yea I'm bitter about
the wasted time. If your Doctor stinks get another one.

Absolutely! I have fired an internist, a cardiologist and an electrophysiologist. The docs are there to take care of you, the patient. Any time you feel that you are not getting the level of care that you personally expect, feel free to move on. In fact, I view it as our responsibility as patients to be our own advocates, and that includes selection of our care teams.
The right docs can make a huge difference in how you feel about
the situation which, I am convinced, will affect the outcome. If you are comfortable with your docs, you will respond better to their treatment.

One of the two or three most significant things we can do to guide our fate - picking doctors. Good work, Bigal.

Wish I had changed Uro's earlier. He totally missed my PCa for several years. It wasn't until he retired and his partner took over my case that an MRI identified my tumor at grade 4, stage 3B just before it metastasized.
I suppose that could happen to anyone, given the small amount of prostate that is visible to the urologist. But he could have done a better job of educating me. When he said all my tests were negative, what I heard was there's nothing wrong. And when I asked him what we should do next he just said repeat the biopsy... which left me wondering, what happens if he results are the same? I had many questions, and he had few answers.
So three years later, here I am fully incontinent, needing to delay SRT while two additional surgeries heal... and facing three years of agonizing HT to boot. This could have been nipped in the bud long ago.

I have always wondered about
patients "firing" their Doctor because of disatisfaction of their handling. If you "fire" them, do you merely quit going to them or do you actually let them know that they are no longer your Physician via face to face conversation or written word??

I fired my Uro, and I cancelled my appts, had my records transferred.
Best thing I've done.
Although he is a good surgeon, he wasn't nearly aggressive enough with ongoing treatment and also played down my rise in PSA after having been undetectable for 3+ years.

Alephnull,
Have you found another team? I wonder if there are docs who specialist is very high risk Pca (T3b N1 M0 GS 9)
Our uro-oncologist is a really nice, smart guy. However, treats all urogeniturinary cancers and all risks.

After my psa tripled from 2014 to 2016 after watching 10 yrs + went to a local urologist after spending his 15 minutes with me and rattling off words that seemed like a foreign language n scheduling a biopsy 2 months down the road I called the Mayo Clinic and they made me an appt n biopsy within the month I just cancelled my appt with local urologist n told them that I was going to the mayo. I had my mother in a ALS program down there for 4 yrs so had very high respect for the mayo staff n doctors. So thankful for living within 5 hrs of Mayo, good insurance and the means to be able to go there, right now the top urology care in the world!

Al, that is great advice. I have "fired" several medical providers over the years and have never been unhappy about
doing so. I won't put up with poor performance or poor service from a roofer or a plumber or a handyman...why should I do so for something infinitely more important, i.e. my health....
