Please provide some detail. But very much in general, IMRT is not 'state of the art' anymore and can be done at many sites.
Why six weeks?

Thanks for the return. I would appreciate your recommendation. Dr Song felt the 4 week treatment doesn't have the long term study although looks promising.

So is this for salvage radiation after a prostatectomy? I assume so - it's the only kind that lasts 6 weeks. This is a very common treatment. You can get this IMRT done almost anywhere - closer is better because, towards the end of treatments, you will have an urgent feeling to pee. A long ride is a bad idea.

She said it goes by faster than you'd think. It's in the center of the action. They'll give you a "John's Hopkins" rate...but ask for a rate even cheaper than that. They have one for longer stays. The ride to the hospital and back is free. They give you a good free breakfast but a light dinner.

All rooms have a kitchenette. The one they stayed in had a separate bedroom...so one can sleep while the other doesn't. The one bedrooms also have a pullout ... so you don't even have to sleep in the same room is you don't want to.

Also....you probably know about the free accommodations that JH itself provides. She said it's nice as well. But less privacy....dorm like. with a common kitchen. Song probably told you about that. (at least he knows about it...and nice as it is...the atmosphere will also be very different)


My bro-in-law's wasn't a slam dunk. There were differences of opinion at JH as to which direction would be best for him. Dr. Song's opinion turned out...in the end...to be the correct opinion after all was said and done. (even though...as you've just learned....he is a man of few words).

I was going to suggest taking a look at South Florida Radiation Oncology. I've got a place in Lake Worth, and am down here this week, and happen to have passed by their location on US441. Looked them up, they have multiple locations, I'm sure there re competent RO's there, very convenient to Boynton Beach.

But after looking at Gary's reco, on Abromowitz, I would say, he'd be at the top of my list, should I need SRT and decide to do it in Florida.

It helps if you add a signature - otherwise we can only guess what your situation is. I assume you are low risk then?

The standard IMRT schedule lasts about 40 sessions, or about 8 weeks - not 6 weeks. If they are offering a 6-week schedule, it is "hypofractionated" (e.g., shortened) which is a good thing, but not everyone is offering it yet, unfortunately. But then, why not go all the way and do it in just 5 sessions (called SBRT)? You have one of the top practitioners in Tampa - Debra Freeman. Other excellent options for you are LDR brachytherapy (seeds) - John Sylvester is in FL; and HDR brachytherapy. You would do yourself a favor by investigating all options.

It's true that Johns Hopkins has the largest, longest-running AS program in the US, but they also have the strictest criteria. The largest, longest-running AS program in North America is in Toronto. They accept all low risk patients and with even longer follow-up have found it to be safe. That's especially true if the confirmatory biopsy is template-mapping or mpMRI-targeted.

Has anyone heard of Dr. John Greskovich at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida. He does the imrt there?
