Side Effects of Xtandi

After radiation and several years of hormone suppression therapy, which was apparently working well, my PSA began to rise. My oncologist prescribed Xtandi.
I have COPD which has been stable for years. After a week of Xtandi I was hospitalized for severe bronchitis for 10 days. I stopped the Xtandi. 6 weeks later I restarted the Xtandi. A week later I was hospitalized for severe pneumonia. I stopped again the Xtandi. My PSA was stable for two months, then rose appreciably over 2 months.
Has anyone had similar experience. We do not know that the conditions are related and I want to restart the Xtandi.

Sorry to hear about the complications.

I began Firmagon in June 0f last year (2016).

Then we added Xtandi in February. I began the Xtandi on the same day of the monthly Firmagon injection. This was a Friday. That night I had a severe case of the shivers which lasted for an hour or so.

Then, on Sunday, I had the bright idea that I needed a flu shot.

Within 5 days, I came down with a head cold that lasted for nearly three weeks.

Coincidental or directly related? I don't know. But, I thought I would share since you are seeking input.

Since then, no problems whatsoever. My PSA is <.01 However, my T is creeping up.

Try cutting the pills in half or even quarters and take the reduced dose for a while and see if you can tolerate that..When everything seems stable, work up to the full dose...That worked for me with Zytiga..My major side effect was nausea...

These are gelcaps and not cuttable though reducing full dose (or 4/day) to 2/day, or 4/every other day could work. Check with doctor about pharmacology of these dosage reduction options.

I have had no unusual symptoms since starting Xtandi about 8 months ago. Some increased fatigue, but more like a continuation of the trends on the ADT that I'd already been on for 3 years prior. My "resistant" PSA dropped from 95 to 1.9 within 7 months, so far. I usually get out for an easy walk with my wife early each morning. I've learned to listen to my body with other activities, such as light yardwork, or walking around for a while at the State Fair. Take long breaks, as needed. Completely cool down if I'm overheating. Etc.

My husband was on Xtandi for over 4 years and never had problems like that, that's not to say you won't! Seems like everyone has different side effects and results!
Hope you are able to continue on it and get years of good results!

One of my Xtandi side effects is almost continuous sinus drainage, and the appearance of a mind cold. It was accentuated a bit with my flu shot, but I guess I was expecting it.

I read the whole package insert, so I think I could turn green and purple without being surprised.

Thanks for the responses to my query about xtandi and respiratory problems. My oncologist feels that since I had two hospitalizations for severe bronchitis and severe pneumonia about two months apart after about one week of xtandi prior to onset of symptoms that I should not risk a third trial. He will institute a new treatment regimen. He related to me that new research has suggested a higher rate of pulmonary side effect with xtandi in older men.
I am new to Healing Well. I am impressed with the site and especially the knowledgeable blogs. No one knows the reals effects of a disease or treatment better than the patient being treated.
Thanks, again, and you will see me again on line. I have been checking daily and have learned something new each time.
