All generalizations are dangerous, including this one.
Having said that, anything anyone says here is an opinion. Strongly presented, passionately defended, meekly offered, suggested, whatever. Just opinions. Take them for what they're worth. Do your own research, follow up the links and/or studies yourself. Draw your own conclusions. A strongly and confidently, even dismissively presented opinion, is still
just an opinion.
Studies are slippery things. You have to read the whole study, look at the specifics, look for the caveats, consider the biases of the authors, what is said, what is not said. Abstracts of studies are too brief to be useful.
My cancer center has a patient information facility, and they'll provide the full studies upon request. I just have to give them a pubmed number for it, and within a week or so I'll have a hard copy in my hands. The full study often significantly compromises the bold statements seen in an abstract.
This forum is perhaps best suited for sharing our experiences. That's what I've been trying to do recently, and plan to do from now on. Cowardice? No, not really. Just acknowledging the limitations of a forum environment. I'm not even comfortable anymore sharing anything my doctors have told me, because there's likely to be a challenge here about
it from someone. Bag that; as a cancer survivor I need less stress in my life, not more.
Son, you're on your own...
