Howdy. Time for an update.
You may recall that I fell, severely injuring my spine, due to severe spinal stenosis (previously unknown to me). I lost all feeling in my arms and legs, and I am in the process of trying to learn how to walk again.
I spent 9 days at Scripps Hospital and then 6 weeks in an Acute Rehab Institute in Century City.I then went home and had an MRI. Unfortunately, it showed a worsening of my condition (despite significant recovery gains). Two doctors strongly recommended cervical surgery. (Otherwise, any fall would be a disaster). I had the neck surgery 3 weeks ago. It was a laminectomy, C3-C7, with additional work on C2. As a result, I have lost about
2 months of gains, with additional major nerve pain from my scapula through my right arm/hand. I was again in acute rehab for 2 weeks. OT was a failure due to my pain, but PT went well.
I will be continuing PT and OT as an outpatient.
On the PC front, I just got great news: my PSA is now 0.02, down from 0.36 in mid-April. I am going to start my PC vacation as soon as I confirm this figure (probably tomorrow), thereby stopping Casodex and foregoing a scheduled 4th 3-month Lurpon shot (scheduled for 8/9).
Sorry -- but I have been preoccupied, dealing with this injury. I am making good strides!

Complier man-brother
Wow, you have been through He** and back!!! I cannot fathom all that happened to you! They will rebuild you into a new 6 million..er now more like a 6 billion dollar man like Steve Austin! All of that, yet you still take time to think of us to post an update. Thank you. We have missed your comments dearly here on HW, I know many of us were praying for your when you went down.
Your fortitude is amazing. PT must be heck but looks like you are handling it. Keep up the fight , leave struggles behind, keep the faith!
That drop in PSA is great, nearly undetectable..yea!!! The Lupron vacation should really help.
Continued prayers for you, brother

Hi Mel and thanks for the update. Man, you continue to go through the ringer. But I hope you're getting at least two steps forward for every step that pushes you back. You certainly sound dedicated on the rehab side, so hope the PT and OT start showing some good results.
And nice PSA! I hope this is a long HT vacation for you. All the best to you from So Cal!

One step back, two steps forward - it sounds like you're on your way to a more lasting recovery now. Good news on the ADT vacation too.

Mel, it's so great to see you here. You are sorely missed here, both for your insights, and your sense of humor. Oh, and your baiting the Mods in a fun, good natured way.
Keep fighting to make progress we need you back here full time.
Great news on the PC front.

Faaaar out Mel - what a champion you are! And just quietly, I think 'preoccupied' is kind of an understatement...!
Great to see you 'back on the board' and I really hope your recovery continues in the right direction.
All the best

Hi Mel,
There aren't many days I don't wonder about
how you are fairing and I breathe a deep sign of relief when I see a post. And I know it isn't easy for you right now to type a post. So it's even appreciated more when you do give an update. I'm sorry you had to go through recovery and therapy twice. I hope you'll be back to your old self soon and giving the mods something to do besides locking Logos threads.
You have been missed by all of us, even the mods I would venture.

Mel - I am truly happy to hear of your progress. Yes, there have been setbacks, but over-all I think you are now in a solid place to work from. We sure aren't angry that you've been away, given the reasons, but I am also sure you will be back here with us once you're back on your feet again.
Until then, brother, keep up the good work and progress will find you.

I don't cry too often, but I do appreciate the warm responses to my updates.
This is my second family, so thank you all from the bottom of my heart for everything.
On a more serious note:
Logos is getting his threads banned?
How can that be? Don't the moderators have to be able to understand his ...words.
Clearly the moderators have too much time on their hands.
I'll see what I can do

Mel –
I never fail to be amazed at the courage and resiliency of some people when faced with extreme adversity. People like you.
I am not well schooled in mathematics, certainly not like you, but I have always had great admiration for the beautiful and perfect consistency of math, the way it is always so dependable and "comes out just right."
Dependable. Like the way you are so consistently handling this crisis with such an even temperament, and how your determination to overcome it comes through so powerfully. Admirable!
Keep up the good work indeed, Mel, and do keep us updated on your progress.

Oh man, Mel. I haven't been around a lot and this is the first I've heard of all this. You've really been through the ringer, but the latest news sounds positive. Hang in there, recover, heal up and enjoy that low PSA.
Best,
Jonathan

So glad you are back Mel...!
You have been through so much recently and it must be upsetting that you have had to do the surgery that erased some of he gains.
You have a great chance for the best possible recovery with your positive mindset... wish you the best.

Hi Mel, I always like to check back on you and An (Paul). It's easy to reflect back to that August, 2010 thread. Where did that time go? It looks like there will be some positive things coming your way. I'm sorry about
the needed surgery. Ron had his on C 5, 6, & 7. He slept in a Lazy Boy for 3 months. I hope your recovery time will be shorter. Good to hear about
your PSA. Wishing you the very best! *HUGS*

Aimzee:
Having a lot of neck pain/discomfort. It seems to feel and look out of place (pushed forward). Did Ron have that?
Mel, impatient after 3 1/2 weeks post surgery!
