My husband went through 6 treatments of Taxotore last spring. Because he plays guitar, and wanted to keep the possibility of neuropathy low, he held onto ice cold coke cans. He already has Raynauds so that may have helped but he didn't have any Neuropathy in his fingers or toes. He also chewed on ice chips for the first few sessions and didn't have any problems with taste. At the last two he didn't use ice chips and lost some of his taste and had the metallic taste.
He also was diagnosed with neutr
openia after the first round. The MO subscribed Neulasta but he was wary of adding yet another drug (he was already on Lupron/Casodex) so talked to the MO about
lowering the dose of Taxotere. MO wasn't too happy, but he did a 10% dosage reduction. His white count was low, but as he had the option for working from home, it worked out.
He was able to continue playing guitar in his band and they spaced out the gigs to match his chemo schedule.
He had a great response to the chemo - both the Radiologist and the MO were surprised at the decrease in the tumor, bone and lymph node mets.
He did loose most of his body hair (was that the chemo or the Lupron?) and his already very thin head hair became thinner BUT 6 months after his last treatment, his receding hairline is now thicker and fuller than it was one year ago! So there was an "upside". lol
