Thought I would post for my 4 year post RALP anniversary. The great news is that my PSA is still virtually non detectable, so I am very grateful. Believe or not, my stress incontinence is still improving to the point that I wonder if I still should wear a pad. ED is handled with meds when I need them.
It's interesting looking back, my surgeon warned me of the "big three," incontinence, ED, and metastaic disease. I am grateful that these issues are under control right now. I am, however, having another issue that I would like to alert my "brothers" about which was not on my radar.
Last Spring I developed an incisional hernia just above the navel where the prostate was removed during the RALP. I had it repaired only to have it re-occur and I need a second, bigger, procedure next week. What is astounding is that Google searches turned up articles siting incisional hernia occurrences after laproscopic procedures at rates anywhere from 9 to 25 percent! While this would not have changed my decision making process before the prostatectomy, it would have been nice to know.
