I haven’t posted a while but want to share the latest in my eventful post surgery ride, which is starting its 12th year. As background, I’ve had a couple of scares throughout the years, with psa starting to creep up, but then returning back to nadir. Last december psa jumped again, to 0.08, and I subsequently had 2 further increases up to 0.12 in june. As you may imagine, I was pretty anxious before the test today, and had mentally prepared for the possibility of salvage with all the related baggage. The result, I am happy to share, came in as 0.09, well below my subjective ’good result’ threshold so, at least for now, life continues without the need for any zapping with the ray gun. Lest hope psa falls back to nadir again.
The likely reason for these scary psa jumps is that there is some residual prostate tissue left which, when inflamed, produce the jumps. That also means that there is risk for cancer recurrence, but at least for now, things are lookin up again.
