I talked with the Oncotype dx folks and they said that they use slides rather than the paraffin block with the molecular core sample itself. Sometimes it happens were there are not enough cancerous cells on the slide to scrape off.
Also talked to the pathologist. His explanation was that the failed test from "insufficient carcinoma" was most likely due to my cancer tumor being more distributed within the normal cells of the sample rather than bulky and solid. Just didn't get enough cancerous cells to run the test. It's doesn't mean I am cancer free, however.....
Had a telephone consult with Dr. King today. He said I was a good candidate for either SBRt or HDRBT and that if I elected to go forward he could get me in with a 3 week notice. He mentioned that he saw the failed test report in my file as well and said it would have been more information but he was not very concerned given my last PSA test was less than 10. He suggested that since it had been more than 6 months since my last PSA test of 5.5 I should have it taken again before he does his treatment to get a baseline plus a bone CT scan to be conservative. I had my biopsy on Nov 30th and he seemed to think that now, 6 weeks later, enough time as past for the prostate to have settled down for a valid PSA test.
