Hello Everyone,
A week ago, I noticed excessive amounts of blood in my urine. I mean large amounts almost like it was pure blood with lots and lots of what looks like large blood clots in it. No pain or burning.
My urologist is concerned, and believes it is 'radiation stenosis', which he said some patients experience after a round of radiation treatements and that the bleeding can come immediately, a year, or five years after the radiation treatments, normally lasts a week, and then goes away. He said there is no treatment for it other than to drink lots and lots of water to try to reduce clotting and potential plugging.
To help rule out other things since I'm high risk, he has ordered a CT this week and scheduled a proceedure involving going up into my bladder with a camera to look for tumors.
A close friend of our's, who's husband died of prostate cancer said that her husband had excessive blood in his urine immediately before he took a turn for the worse.
Naturally, my wife is very concerned upon hearing this.
The good news is that after six days, the bleeding has suddenly stopped completely.
If any of you have encountered severe urinary tract bleeding some time after radiation treatment, could you post a reply and tell me your experiences and whether you agree with the urologist on what it could be.
