Anyone being treated with Adovart?

I assume he's on Lupron too (you didn't include a signature)? I've only seen estramustine given with docetaxel. The avodart probably won't hurt or help him much

He may be on Avodart just to help with urinary issues/flow. It is used for that sometimes. My father's doctor put him on it for that reason during his prostate cancer treatment.

It's not unusual for medical oncologists to use Avodart as the third part of a triple androgen blockade -- sometimes called ADT3 for "androgen deprivation therapy" with three blocks. The three drugs are 1) an anti-androgen that blocks the effect of testosterone (Casodex, usually) and 2) a drug to suppress the production of testosterone (Trelstar or a similar drug injected every few months) and finally, 3) a drug that blocks the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone which is a more dangerous form (often Avodart.)

So the Avodart is a conventional part of his PCa treatment. I was on ADT3 (with Avodart) for two years along with my adjuvant radiation after my surgery.

I notice from your signature that his doctors have stopped the Casodex. That's not unusual for a man who has been on ADT for several years. Casodex works by attaching to androgen sensitive cells where the testosterone would attach. The Casodex blocks the testosterone by being in the way so the testosterone can't attach and activate the receptors. Sometimes cancer cells mutate to find ways of using the Casodex molecule to activate their receptors as if it were testosterone. When that happens it sometimes helps to stop the Casodex.
