Hi Guys,

My AUS was activated May 30th. I used a pad for the first 24 hours and had no leaks. Moved some
funiture a few days later and used a pad then, only had a few drops then, however for the last seven
days, no pads, no leaks. I might use a small pad just in case.

I watch the AUS surgery on youtube a few years ago and it look like a hard surgery, however, after
useing 5 to 7 pads a day for the last 4 1/2 years , I saw my uro.

The surgery was easy, uro place balloon in scrotum by the pump, cuff away from where the
Prostate and radation hit. No pain just alittle discomfort because of the swollen scrotum.

I have not been this happy since Dec. 013 when I was DX with PC.

Anyone thinking about AUS, find a uro that has done hundreds AUS, however keep doing
your kegels for awhile don’t give up.

Someone placed a post awhile back about close because they had no insurance in the USA.
I have a medicare advantage plan with United Health Care. I had the surgery in Savannah Ga.
Cost : $70,884.00
My cost $ 2662.00
Cost around the country will be different I’m sure.

One month to go before I get mine implanted. I can not wait. I am a 7-10 pad guy. I want my life back!

I think you will be ,happy with the Ams 800. I haven’t been wearing any pads for the last few days and
Haven’t had any leaks. I had a few leaks moveing some heavy furniture but I can deal with that. Normal
activities NO!! leaks. Good luck.

I opted not to go with the AUS as the information at the time said that on average parts or the AUS itself had to be replaced every 4-5 years.(on average)

Has this been your experience?

EchoTango, happy to hear your surgery went well and that you are satisfied with the results. Wish I could say the same for myself after failed AUS surgery last June. I was looking forward to a leak free and padless life. But at least I am having pretty good success with a penile clamp. I guess total incontinence is a small price to pay to be cancer free...although there are days when it gets a little depressing. Hope all of you who have had successful AUS surgery continue to have dry days and nights 24/7. Did you ever think you would see the day when something like that was worth celebrating?! LOL

I've had my AUS for a year now and still must wear a pad at all times. But it did get the job done of allowing me to go thru adjuvant radiation. Previously I had been nearly totally incontinent. The surgery was a nightmare and the cuff needed to be replaced in emergency surgery. During the time in between I had a Foley catheter 24/7. The revision surgery left me with chronic pain in my left thigh.

Fortunately I only use two pads a day... one in my underwear by day and another in my jammies in the evening. In bed I sleep with a dry washcloth between my thighs. Before the AUS I was dry at night but now drip in my sleep, though that may have been caused by the radiation. I'm not sure, but I do know that the slight leakage I experience is by far better than the total incontinence I lived with beforehand.

I am sorry you had a bad experience with the AUS, but you are not alone. And good luck to you other guys with yours. I am actually looking forward to having it replaced again in a few years and hope that it might go better next time.

RobLee your experience is similar to mine, as I remember. I had to have my AUS removed during emergency surgery, however they could not replace it due to damage caused by the device. Because of the experience I am very reluctant to try again. Wonder how many people have had experience similar to ours?
While total incontinence is miserable, I can go through 20 pads a day without the penile clamp, it would be a little disconcerting to have the successful surgery and still leak. But 20 pads to 2 pads would be a marked improvement. Hope you continue to improve!

My uro told me AMS 800 should last 10 years or longer, that is his experiences.
