Why excessive sweat while on Zytiga+Prednisone

Hi All,

Recently I was talking to my father through webcam while I noticed he was sweating a lot.
He said it happens sometimes twice a day when he starts to sweat all over. He also said he doesn't feel hot, just sweating.

Any idea/ similar experience or knowing the reason why?

It is a variation of a hot flash. If he is on Lupron or something like it, standard stuff.

I do that a lot. Nothing gets through the day without needing a trip to the washing machine.

@142: Thank you for the reply. Actually my concern was about the cancer which is known to cause more sweating in general.

I've not found that I was sweating any more than usual because of the PCa alone. It didn't become an issue until I went on Lupron.

Hello Farz53,

If your dad is on ZYTIGA, it's likely he is also on some form of A.D.T. hormone shot ... such as LUPRON, or FIRMAGON, or ZOLADEX ...

With that being said, the A.D.T. shots are infamous for causing "hot flashes" during the day, and "night sweats" during the night ...

These events can come upon you quite suddenly, last for a bit, and then fade away.

It's a common side effect from the A.D.T. hormone shots, and likely your dad receives those, as part of his treatments.

Thanks guys.

He has been under the surgery to remove the testicles (can't recall the medical term), so he is on permanent hormonal therapy given his circumstances.

That would be the most extreme alternative to Lupron, so I'll suspect it is the same hot flashes I get. My Onco suggests Vitamin E. My female friends suggest Black Cohosh. There are medications, but the ones I took caused a lot of weight gain. That did not work for me. I prefer the hot flashes to an extra 20 or 40 pounds. I gave up when I topped +20.

@142: I agree with you, uncontrollable weight gain has its negative side-effects.
