I want to scream

I am about to lose another friend to this stupid disease and I am really pissed off about it. A couple hours ago I received His goodbye email. He has been in the hospital for a month and was hoping to come home but cancer had other plans. He will be transferring to hospice. Rob is another young guy like myself and we have travelled much of the same road together. He has fought this disease for 10 years. He was unable to receive Provenge due to liver metastasis.He has been a tireless warrior and a dedicated patient advocate. we were together at PCRI. He has spent the better part of the last several years working with Answer Cancer as a full time advocate. He is a wonderful human being, husband, father, and friend. I hate this frigging disease. Thanks for the vent.

He has done good work and benefited many. May God bless him. Thank goodness that his loved ones had him in their lives and will continue to with his memory.

It sounds like he fought on two fronts. He fought his own case and he fought the disease in the world. That first battle is one we all lose, sooner or later, and it is the second struggle that will live on in the people he has helped. That way the end, when it comes, may be a disappointment that it came too soon, but it can never be defeat.

I too, or I should say we all agonize at the price that good men pay being victims of this insidious disease. I too lost a good friend just two weeks ago, and I am still grieving, it still stings, I still hurt, and probably forever feel that hurt. I would give anything to have one more phone call or to just see him in person one more time, just to tell him how special he was to me. I find myself staring at his photo and knowing that there but for the grace of God go I.

So scream out loud, fight the beast that remains out of reach sometimes. Just know that if he is your friend, he is truly blessed by sharing this journey with you, and not being alone. That is probably the hardest thing. Even though we are surrounded by loved ones and friends, there are those times when in our minds , we are alone and the unknown future is truly overpowering.

Remind your friend to forever fight the good fight, or if he is near the end remind him that he did indeed. Tell him that there a few hundred brethren here on this forum, seen and unseen that share his journey, and are thinking about him now.

Sorry to hear of this, I hate this disease.

Sorry to hear that news Todd. My wife and I lost two close friends in the last two months to cancer. Six weeks ago I was having a met radiated and found out my oldest sister had been diagnosed with throat cancer and was going to the same radiologist. My Daughter called me last week and asked what I knew about lung cancer, and her mother in-law has just been diagnosed with stage for lung cancer with mets to the brain, spine and thigh. She is sixty years old and never smoked. Now that I am on xtandi I have to take it one day at a time. Between xtandi and the hot humid summer days in Georgia, there is not much that I can do other than take it one day at a time. It can feel overwhelming when I look at all of it at one time. So, I live for Blue Bell Ice Cream, homemade vanilla with peaches. It helps.

Todd, sorry to hear this. But what a band of brothers and sisters there is here to wrap each of us, our families, and those we know in the network of support, empathy, and understanding. Hope you feel that and can send some of it to your friend.
