RCS asks: << When I read about
your use of steel cut oats, I started thinking.
Have you ever tried oat bran instead of steel cut oats? >>
<< I started on oat bran muffins (with walnuts and raisins) many years ago (20?)
as part of a regime to lower LDL. For me, the regime worked and I have been
on oat bran muffins ever since. I wonder what part of the oat imparts beneficial
effects ..... if any are imparted. >>
I have no data on oat bran. My guess is that you could get it to work.
Oat bran muffins (with walnuts and raisins), however, would be more problematic.
Billybob: . . . concerning walnuts . . . Walnuts are a mainstay in my diet. At least
1/2 cup a day. I would not be concerned with them.
Fiddlecanoe says: << Unfortunately, there will probably never be a test of the
Cashless diet. His theory is that even small amounts of certain foods feed the
cancer, so a good test of the diet requires a large number of people to adhere
strictly to the diet, something that won't happen, because people love eating the
foods he avoids too much. The normal scientific approach would be to test whether
REDUCING certain foods has a beneficial effect. If Cashless is right, that is not a
good test of his theory. >>
You got that right. I do not question the "level of evidence" of studies/trials
concerning food and cancer. I do question their premise/presumption that
"moderate modifications" to diets can result in changes in cancer growth rates.
I believe that to start a thread with . . . "A new randomized clinical trial finally
puts to bed the question . . . " that you need a high level of evidence, but you
also need correct suppositions.
For example, concerning insulin and cancer . . . To imply that insulin may not be
growth factor for PC, because IGF1 inhibitors have consistently failed to show any
benefit in clinical studies, implicitly assumes that IGF1 is the dominant molecular
mechanism underlying the biological actions of insulin in PC. I do not believe
that to be the case. So, I'm not questioning the level of evidence, but rather the
presumptions necessary to come to that conclusion.
