GA 68 PSMA - DOTA PET. SCAN

Unless you have really great insurance, I doubt they will authorize it. The FDA has not approved it yet. The Axumin scan, which is FDA approved and covered by Medicare, picked up mets in 38% of men with PSA from 0.2 - 1.0 and 78% of men with PSA from 1.0-2.0. So you might expect about a 58% chance that an Axumin scan will discover mets in your husband.

But the fact that they found one of his mets on an FDG PET scan means that he may have a different kind of prostate cancer as well, so he may need both FDG and Axumin PET scans. Was the met on his T-11 spine blastic or lytic? That is, was the bone overgrowth on the CT or was there bone erosion detected?

I don't know if the spot on his T-11 spine was either of those, blastic or lytic. The F-18 scan that was done at Stanford, was done in a trial .

He since has had 2 other mets found in bone scans, one to his pelvis and one to his R rib. All 3 of these mets. have been radiated.

2 months ago he had 2 scans that showed something on his L Rib on a CT Scan, however didn't show on the bone scan .

I mentioned to our Oncol last month about the Axumin scan, she didn't seem aware of this one.

Are there any other scans more precise RE: PCA that you may know about?

Perhaps we can do another trial if insurance isn't a covered benefit.
