Huston TX or Gilbert Az Md Anderson?

My yearly PSA had been <.064 for 8 years but last test was .12 which leads to concern about BCR. I have an appointment at Banner MD Anderson in Gilbert AZ on the 19th of this month. I contacted them because they would take my insurance and are the closest major cancer center, approximately 400 miles from my home.

I got to thinking about MD Anderson Houston so gave them a call. They said that they would work with me on the insurance. They are considerably further away at 1100 miles.

My question: given the choice which direction would you head and why? I understand that the Houston location has doctors that specialize in prostate cancer. I am not sure about the Gilbert AZ location. My assigned doctor there is listed as an MO.

I am thinking about keeping the appointment and asking all of the questions I can think of and see what they recommend. If anyone has experience with doctors at either location I would appreciate your feedback.

Houston is the mothership. I've seen other places listed with the name, but as associate / affiliate.

You'll need to ask the MO if they work with or hopefully primarily with PCa. That may not be mentioned in doctor bios.

When I tried to work with them, it was to consider Proton RT, but they considered me to not be a good match. Besides that, I was going to have a major battle with insurance.

I do know folks who have used the Houston facilities and have been very happy with them.

142 Thanks for your input, I am working on a list of questions for the MO. Real high on the list is his experience with dealing with PC and what kind of treatment he would recommend.

Octorobo Apricate the name of your RO.

When I found out that my PSA had jumped quite a bit I panicked and made the appointment with Banner MD Anderson without considering Houston. Having settled down somewhat have decided to ask lots of questions at Banner MDA and leave the door open to travel to Houston.

Hopefully will have a better idea and direction after the appointment on the 19th.

Good approach, but like 142 wrote, I would keep the mothership on the front burner.
PS: That's a really bad analogy!
