I have been fully retired for about
4 years. It only took a few months to realize I needed something scheduled to do when not traveling. While looking for volunteer work I found Road to Recovery of the American Cancer Society. They provide transportation of cancer patients to treatment. I joined and heartily encourage anybody who still drives to think about
it. We volunteer for drives on a web site that lists available needs. So you only volunteer when you want. You don't have to notify anybody if you are leaving town or have appointments, you just don't volunteer for drives during that period. Some only volunteer for drives once or twice a week, some more, some less. You can read more about
the program here. https://www.cancer.org/treatment/support-programs-and-services/road-to-recovery.html
Oh, and if any of you need a drive or know somebody who does give them that web page. People who need drives may live alone or their normal driver has work. They must be able to get in the car without the driver's assistance. At the treatment center there are normally wheelchairs and volunteers available to help them to the office.
