Tommy,
Sounds like you’re having a tough time following treatment. I know that Brachytherapy (and particularly HDR) can cause significant irritation of the urethra. If the flow is already restricted prior to treatment, it will likely be exacerbated.
The RO that I have talked to about
Brachy told me that roughly 50% of patients will have acute short term effects due to the irritation of the prostatic urethra by the radiation, so it is standard practice to provide a “cocktail” of medicines following treatment to calm it down, improve flow (FlowMax), etc. But that in the long term, it will for the vast majority of patients, improve. And Brachytherapy is highly effective.
I hope things improve quickly and permanently for you and that the cancer treatment proves effective and you can move on with living life.
Thanks for the feedback on Dr. X - I was considering him but I’ve received my results from the secondary biopsy review and the Decipher test and hope to be doing SBRT with Dr. King at UCLA. It is likely that I will suffer some short term urinary side effects. I hope they won’t be long term and that the treatment will be effective. The latest medium term results for SBRT are very promising.
Nevertheless, all of this is research, then weighing it out in your heart and mind, and making a decision and moving on - at least that’s what I tell myself. Good luck my brutha and wishing you quick healing and a permanent end to your cancer.
