5 Days Post-op.

Hi everyone

RALP was last Wednesday. Surgery was 3.5 hours and unremarkable according to the two surgeons. I got a picture of the offending gland after removal. That was at my request. My urologist was so excited I wanted pictures.

Biggest issue post surgery was developing a scrotal hematoma. Basically my sac swelled to the size of a small planet. Ended up at ER Friday night as the swelling was constricting the cath. 7 hours later sent home with an antibiotic and ice pack instructions.

Very frustrating. I am supposed to walk to help healing but keep my nuts elevated and iced.

Had some rough nights of no sleep. Hoping for better days ahead and cath removal on Thursday.

Wow. Seems like the last place you want a hematoma. Sounds very uncomfortable. Hope it goes down soon. I wanted to make a joke to lighten it up, but maybe not a good idea. 🙂

Once my cath was removed (7 days post-op) I noticed that things were pretty sore down there and after 2 weeks I noticed a bulge, like a third nut but not totally in the scrotum. It was really sore but that subsided after about the 6th week. My urologist diagnosed it as a spermatocele. It's a cyst and could be removed but they tend to return. As it doesn't bother me much now I'm just living with it.

I suggested that it had something to do with the free vasectomy they toss in with the prostatectomy. She concurred and said "you get what you pay for." She does have a pretty good sense of humor.

Cath came out today. I’m still dry so maybe that comes later?

Path report not as good as I’d hoped for but also not surprised given the location of the largest tumor. Prostate size was 66. Seminole Neg all lymph nodes neg and all other areas of the prostate were neg. prostate was 25% cancerous.

The Apex margin was positive. Cancer was outside of the margin he was able to cut. Since that was positive they are recommending adjunctive radiation starting in Feb.

I have asked for everything to be sent to Epstein for another second opinion.

Did I mention I’m glad the cath is out.

Will get multiple opinions. Feels like starting this all over again.

Sac still a bit on the large side but much improved.

Seriously though... if you're not leaking big-time now the cath is out, prognosis is excellent! GG was dry from day one, and has been ever since - I truly hope the same for you.

Very sorry to hear about the positive margin - that's a blow. But you'll get through it all, and will hopefully look back on this time with the whole experience firmly planted in the rearview mirror.
