Frequent urination 6 months after surgery

My husband had radical prostatectomy 6 months, ago. For few days, he started having more frequent urination though he was pretty stable. His 3 months PSA check is due this month. Did someone else experience the incontinence after it was stabilized? Could it indicate smth else?

Martian2, unfortunately sometimes urinary problems including incontinence may persist for months and even years after PSA stabilizes. There are exercises and even operations that are available to your husband if this doesn't resolve itself over time. Good luck.

What he said. I was terrible for 6 months, pretty bad for most of a year, then only minor issues since then, pad free unless I feel like some extra confidence, then I might wear that smallest shield, but never really needed. Also, some days are worse than others, and I think during that 1st year that was a lot of 2 steps forwar and 1 step back going on. Do those Kegels and look into bio feedback/electro stimulation if you haven't already done so. And walk as much as possible. I have no proof for that, it just seemed the more I walked the better I did. A European ( ironic, eh? your a peein?) trip where I had to walk a lot and bathrooms were not very handy turned out to be a blessing, I swore I was better after I got back from that trip.

Has he drank more alcohol or especially caffeine? Caffeine definitely makes me go more often since my surgery. I guess it's just a little more of an irritant.

Number one bathroom habits have been all over the map for the 3 years since my surgery.

I’ve quit expecting any reliability. Abnormality is my new normal.

I am 2 months post surgery. A good topic to rejuvenate the conversation on frequency after RRP for me. I had been looking forward to finally sleeping thru the night but alas I am getting up more often i.e. 3-4 times vs. 2 prior to surgery. During the day I do drink a lot of liquids but go every 2 hours. Sometimes, there is very little urine but I had the urgency. Other times, I have a full bladder with not much urgency and relieve like a firehose I don't know the medical answer but I would give you some consolation that you are not alone. I will say that I have also had 2 hip replacements and both times I learned there are physical adjustments your body has to go through over several months that can seem alarming but are normal. I tormented the poor PA's at the Orthopedic practice when I called convinced that my surgery was failing. Give it 6 months. Your bladder has to find a new home and possibly some other body parts I am unfamiliar with. They are not happy that you disturbed their home of the past 60 years.

6 months following RARP I was continent with the help of a physical therapy exercise program. The urinary frequency however was terrible. I tried myrbetric and oxybutinin with minimal success. Up 3-4 times at night. Then a pelvic metastasis was discovered and salvage radiation began, which set back my continence progress. Halfway thru radiation, I developed bleeding, radiation paused, and a catheter was placed for 2 weeks. My urologist suggested taking the catheter out with anesthesia, scoping my urethra and bladder, and injecting botox. The frequency improved 50% but is slowly declining after 4 months.

The urinary system has taken a beating in the RALP process. Experience varies tremendously, with some being dry right away and others never getting there. That said, I think it's probably unusual to regress after six months. I would definitely consult the urologist.
