Unless one has had a cancer diagnosis, it seems impossible to understand how one can simply not forget, I live with treatment side effects daily, permanent physical changes that are a constant reminder. And recurrence is always possible; we can sometimes hear that dragon gently snoring in the distance. That thought lurks in the dark recesses of our minds, only exposed occasionally (scanxiety, for example).
Beautifully put Redwing! (I forget... is it Jerry, or is that someone else? Chemo brain!) I had a hard time sleeping last night... blood draw today. Like scanxiety, the apprehension comes the night before the test, rather than when you get the results.
I really like your dragon analogy. And no matter what type of cancer, one thing that all warriors and survivors have in common is the knowledge that
anyone who has never been thru it themselves has no idea what it's like. It's hard to believe that "only" about
5% of the population has had cancer (15M out of 300M). It seems everyone I talk with lately has or has had one form or another. Of course, it could just be the company that I keep.
