Early retirement, because of PCa, or not? Some opinions

Redwing57 - The payback is pretty long. I think when I ran the numbers in my case it was around 12 years to recover a delay so you have to be pretty confident in your lifespan to even consider this. You actually have to exceed the 12 years realize to any savings. The monthly amount also affects what benefit you leave to your spouse if that is part of the equation to consider.

The only reason it makes sense to spend your own money first is that the impressed interest rate is 8% and it is pretty hard to get that in any safe investment. The amounts are relatively small though so it should not be enough to make life decisions unless you have plenty of money and the ROI actually matters to you. Or you are extremely healthy with 95 year old parent.

Too young to retire, but how about semi-retired? I'm still going at 70% of my former routine since PCa knocked on my door. May keep it this way for another 10 years, but probably no big changes from here until I've got a better feel for long term PCa expectations.

I just turned 73 and still working full time, got social security at 66. I plan to retire after this semester but who knows I may continue to teach.

I retired immediately upon diagnosis. I had quit corporate 8 years prior and was doing consulting work therefore, I didn’t give up a big job. I’m glad I did retire to enjoy my time. My reasoning was that I never know how long I will last with PC so I wanted to get every day that I could.

I pay my own insurance and have 20 more months of that. I could have made a better financial decision but I have enough. I would recommend it if you can.
