I am 1 year post-RALP, in fact, one year this Thursday. Incontinence has been an issue and improved until about 4-5 months post-surgery. At about 9 months I saw a PT who specializes in pelvic floor issues and did the exercises. I saw no improvement and may have experienced some backtracking.
I am VERY active. I run, swim, work on cars, do woodworking, and, lately, shovel lots of snow. When I am active, I leak. I tend not to leak at night or when I swim. I think it's because of being horizontal. I go through 4-6 heavy duty pads per day.
I saw my uro and we discussed my options. She feels that I would be happier with the AMS 800 artificial sphincter than a sling. She is also a distance runner. I read the literature, went back and read various threads on this site, and watched a video of the procedure. While the prospect of another surgery causes me some concern, every time I have an accident (a couple times per week) I feel that I just don't want to deal with this anymore. I am reluctant to do some things I want to do, like travel internationally, so this is impacting my lifestyle.
I don't really have a question but am just sharing my journey. On the upside, my 1 year PSA is still undetectable so I celebrate that.
