sticture of urethra

Hi guys,
I am 1 year out from EBT and Brachyseeds and have developed a stricture at the apex. It burns when urinating and hurts when bladder is full. The Uro wants to do a procedure urothrotomy? where they open things up. Has anyone gone through this so I know there is hope??

There's hope. However, my stricture resulted from surgery, so whether it applies to your situation is not clear to me.

My stricture was dilated. Dilation and urethrotomy have similar outcomes. Fortunately, my stricture "popped right open" and wasn't very long. The stricture was opened at around the 3-4 month mark after surgery. 6 mos. after the procedure, the stricture was checked and had remained completely open. It's been 3 years since the stricture was opened and so far, so good. Flow remains good.

It's clear from your post you've been reading about this. And you're right, most literature is unfortunately discouraging. That said, when I had mine opened up, there was someone else here who'd had his opened up 10 months prior and his was still holding.

The length of the stricture is everything. Hopefully, you will have a similar outcome. I've done no self-dilating nor self-cathing. They even sent me home without a catheter. The next morning, there was bleeding from my penis, which cleared up after 2 or 3 days. There's 4 or 5 or us that I know of who's had to deal with this issue. Mixed results for sure.

I'd want to know how long the stricture is.

I completely understand the discouragement and can relate. Reading about this issue is not light reading. But, I felt the same way with the same outlook and here I am.

My stricture is at the apex of my prostate. and they are putting me out also and I have to wear a catheter for 3 days as well.

I had a stricture that was likely due to colon surgery and I can feel for you. Not sure if the procedure they are suggesting to you is the same, but I was glad I had it done. Pee like a horse on drugs now and don't feel bad about walking past the restroom. The thing I love/hate about my stricture is that before finding that, they suspected and confirmed my PCa based on the symptoms. The job is not pleasant to go through, but the relief was well worth it. Dr. said it wouldn't be fun bit I elected to do it in the office with no sedation. I got my chance to tell him "You're going to feel a little prick".
