This thread would be more complete to define "failure" of any first-line prostate cancer treatment mode...whether surgery or radiation. Modifying one word in my previous definition captures it completely:
    Once bio chemical recurrence (BCR) occurs, then the surgery treatment is noted to have failed to contain the cancer.

Definitions of BCR are different for surgery and radiation.

It's important to recognize that BCR does not mean metastatic disease...it could advance to that, but it doesn't mean that has occurred yet. Metastatic disease occurs only in somewhere between a quarter and a third of "failed" primary treatment cases (either mode). The clinical characteristics at the time of BCR can help guide secondary treatment decisions. I was reading the article below until I came across this.
"Another study of 8,669 patients with prostate cancer treated with surgery (5,918 patients) or radiation (2,751 patients) found that a PSADT of less than 3 months was significantly associated with prostate cancer–specific mortality"

For me, 6 weeks, carp! Things to look forward to once ADT fails. (I'm a few years passed average time to ADT failure)

alphanull, yes, PSA kinetics is significant. To be confident in the validity/reliability of PSADT measurements, however, be sure to use 3 PSA measurements obtained 3 months apart.

I'm not sure with a certain amount of certitude why you continue to refer to me that way.
I have my theories.

My PSADT has been well established, two different ADT vacations same 6 week PSADT.

But as I said, ADT still works, thank God!
