I had my annual physical yesterday, all is good. The NP asked me if I had the shingrix vaccine yet, and when I said no, she said they had it there, and if I wanted it, they could do the first dose right then.

Tell you what, it's more painful than a tetanus booster. We'll see if it lasts more than 24 hours.

That shot packs a decent wallop, for sure. It is mostly immune system reaction though, at least it was in my case.

Now here's hoping it is effective in preventing another round of shingles. That was a very painful and annoying belt to wear for 3 months, then to fade from there only to reappear on both my calves for another 3 months. sad

I’m in the middle of my war on shingles right now. Been going on for 3 weeks and still as painful today as it was 3 weeks ago. Mine is centered around my shoulder. Even the lightest touch from a shirt sends excruciating pain. Sleep is broken up. So far I’ve tried gabapentin, prednisone, lidocaine spray and Tylenol. The only thing that helps me sleep is a couple of hits from my Cbd vape.
I hope the injection works for you. This is one of those things where you say, “I wouldn’t wish this in my worst enemy”. Well, maybe....🙂

There was a shortage last year so now you get asked by every pharmacist if you want one now that the supply caught up. I did ok with mine other than a sore arm but my wife got very sick after the 2nd shot with flu like symptoms for a couple day. Reactions have proven to be fairly common now that it is being field tested on everyone.

I just had my first shot last month. It was sore for several days. I went to bed the 2nd night with the chills. Fine the next day.

I believe there was an earlier thread about this. My wife had a very difficult time with the first shot, but was fine with the second. I haven't scheduled my shots yet, but given the two shot timing and the likelihood of negative SEs, I need to determine the best time to do this.

Dogdays: so sorry to hear what you're going through. I hear it's awful. Or even worse than that.

I think the better your immune system works, the worse the SE of the Shingrix shot. I have two friends on Enbrel, which suppresses you immune system, and neither had any SE’s.

Yesterday evening (24 hrs post shot), I started getting chills and aches. This morning, no problem, arm still sore.

I have been putting it off, but will get it done after the winter. Based on this thread, i ain't looking forward to it. But as TJ says, its less painful than Shingles

darn straight brother. Did you get the shot after having shingles or before? Since shingles can come back, I have to wait a while before I can get it.

Everyone else,
If anything, get the shot. Whatever discomfort you might feel from the shot for a couple of days, is NOTHING, compared to the pain shingles brings.

Great advice to get the shot now. Most of us are being treated with heavy ADT meds and our immune system ain't what it used to be. Don't wait til "after winter". Per Nike, just do it.

I was infected prior to the shot.

It tracked a rash in a semi-circle on my torso. I got to the doc early enough to obtain an anti-viral med. There is a short window of time after onset when the anti-viral is effective. For me it helped.

It was painful but not nearly as painful as for those who don't catch it in time and delay treatment. Sometimes the rash can occur at the head and face. Nasty.

If you've had chickenpox and you're an old fart you're at risk for shingles.

When I was a kid we had chickenpox parties. Weird. It was a disease we wanted to catch rather than prevent. Mother and father always know best.

Shingrix can potentially prevent some misery.

I'm a school teacher, teaching many students, each day.

My oncologist, wanting to be proactive, has suggested I pursue various vaccines --- so, I get an annual flu shot. I was tested for measles immunity. I had the pneumonia vaccine. I got the whooping cough vaccine. Next week, I am due for the second half of the new SHINGRIX shingles vaccine.

It's something I can do to be as proactive as I can … I've had chemotherapy and radiation, so I want to protect myself in all ways possible.
