Wacky, crazy, nutty idea that I'm offering in jest yet with a smidgen of reason.
I live in California, where as everyone knows our governor just told us all to stay home. Excellent move. His experts guesstimate that 25.5 of the 40ish million of us will contract this thing in the next 2 months. We also read of the woeful shortage of ICU beds, ventilators, etc. and the people to run them. In Italy triage creates tragic decisions.
It is reasonable to assume that this situation, irrespective of politics, will likely be our future as well. I am 66; my wife is 68. We are in otherwise good health, but still.
What about
deliberately getting the virus now (as deliberately as one is able) so as to potentially be in a position to take advantage of the now-available resources? This assuming we'll need them, which we would hope not to.
This would serve two functions: 1) We'd potentially be able to be treated and recover, and 2) We therefore wouldn't be adding to the crush in another x weeks/months when it really gets bad.
Call this a thought experiment. (PS I'm not really gonna do this!)
