Good news and also some conflicting information.

David had a call with Dr. Tang’s PA this morning.
The good news is that they got proton approved so it will be that instead of regular EBRT.
The conflicting news is that she said when doing both forms of radiation (Proton and Brachy boost) that they don’t use the SpaceOar.
Dr. Tang himself has said to us twice now that they would use SpaceOar.
She said that it skews the placement of the brachy seeds. My thought was do the brachy first and then inject SpaceOar for the proton.

How important do you think that is?
I assume if they don’t use it, then they would do the balloon each time?

The spaceoar has mixed reviews out there, as I recall. Some docs swear by it, others wonder if it really accomplishes anything. IMO, this is where one has to trust the judgment of the experts in the individual situation.

Good to hear the proton got accepted. Is that fewer treatments?

I don’t think so. I think it’s still 22 treatments.

They put him on the schedule to start September 8. That might be a loose date placeholder, but at least it’s a date.
