Please help my dad has brain mets now!!!

Brain metastasis from prostate carcinoma is a rare, terminal event with death in  < 1 year frequently due to advanced, systemic disease.

Last year about this time my father had some symptoms that were puzzling gradually getting more significant i.e. headache, forgetfulness, sometimes he could not find words, so my first worry was dementia.
Made an mri in January 2020 and the diagnosis was a big mass 6x6,2 cm occupying temporal;occipital;perietal susceptive of Prostate cancer metastasis, I thought it is the end of all our fights 16 years . The day of his surgery was also the birthday of my daughter, it was the worst day I have lived by now. But there is a light believe in that!
Depending on the size and location there are few options either classic craniotomy or gamaknife get informed. Then a whole brain radiation if they think it’s necessary, for my dad it was.
He had a classic craniotomy and WBRT. I was scared what the side effects would be but I can tell you now he is doing all on his own and no significant problems with memory loss.

He had a whole brain radiation in mid of March 10 sessions, his PSA in Jan 2020was 110 today his PSA is 4.
Yesterday he went from his apartment in the city with train to airport took a plane and came to me(I live in another country) all on his own.

I’m glad I can make you feel at ease, I know how you must feel!
My dad started feeling better just as he stopped chemo which started right after the radiation so I can’t really tell you how it’s going to go for your dad but it takes time, be patient and supportive.
My dad has little bone involvement more soft tissue - lungs and now the brain there is still one tiny spot in the cerebellum but it has stayed stable.

I can be honest with you, the road is not easy my dad was determined and determination is what made the difference! The burns on his skin on the head eye infection all that from the radiation it’s so hard to go trough! Be by his side and support him he can go trough it.

Is there an edema in the brain? My father had edema and with dexametason the headache subsided substantially - that was even before the surgery. With radiation I know he did not have any headaches maybe dizziness (he explained it like balance problems and feeling walking on eggshells) from time to time.
He had on and off leg weakness trough whole treatment but no headaches.
They must give him something for the headache, my dad’s headache was due to the substantial edema so dexametasone helped a lot with reducing inflammation and the pain went away.
Talk to the doctors they must explain what they are seeing on the scans.
Do I understand right?, is it just the scalp bone or the brain as well?

My father had 3 times 6 cycles cabazitaxel chemo (they call that re-challenge) it has worked every time and his bone metastasis reduce every time. For us the biggest issue was the lung involvement and now the brain. It’s good that now after all treatment he has had there is no evidence of metastasis on the part operated on and the tiny dot on the cerebellum has decreased and the last follow up showed that it is stable at the decreased point. New brain scans is for February 2021.
