Finally the transition can begin and, one hopes, there won't be a delay in vaccine distrubution because of administration hand-off problems. A minor miracle. Speaking of which, I thought the Miracle of Hanukkah was a neat story: a tiny quantity of oil miraculously kept the menorah lit for eight days when the temple was rededicated after a victory over a tyrant king. But the president smashed that record this Hanukkah season, turning a one-day election defeat into a 20-day loss. Cool trick!

Just read an article from a top doc at Pfizer expressing concern over whether people will get the second dose of the vaccine. She said the response to the shot is significant for most people in the trials and that the negative response could cause enough people to beg off the second shot that is necessary to get to the 90% effectiveness level that is being touted.

She also expressed similar concern that word of mouth from people who get the first shot and have a significant negative response could suppress others from even getting the first shot. She says there has to be a significant educational based public relations effort to get enough people to fully vaccinate for it to be effective for the society.

Couple this with distribution challenges shows what an uphill fight this will be.
