Wishing a happy Thanksgiving for everyone!

I will be away for a week or more, family stuff, but before leaving may I wish for a very happy and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday for all!

There are some who may be saying these days, perhaps understandably, "What's to be thankful for in a year like this one?"

Well, plenty really, and two things that do stand out in particular regarding 2020.

First, let us be thankful that we have had so many dedicated health workers selflessly aiding those struck by the pandemic. Blessings to all of them. And let us be especially thankful for the promise of effective vaccines on the horizon.

And, without reference to specific politics, in deference to forum policy, let us still be thankful that we live in a country where the election process proved that it works, and democracy prevails!

Gobble, gobble

I was musing about 2020 and what a terrible year it’s been. Without a doubt, that is very true, especially for those suffering the loss of loved ones and being hit financially by the impact of jobs and the economy as a whole. Personally the only negative impact on me was the cancellation of a study abroad I was scheduled for last May. That’s a blip minor compared to others.

In the meantime I am grateful for having had another birthday and another year with an undetectable PSA. I made the most of my time and created lots of new art, ran 2 half marathons (the virtual variety), did a major home remodel project, and taught my neighbor kid film photography for his merit badge toward his Eagle Scout.

I am stepping into my eighth year of survival, since diagnosis, and am mindful of my blessings --- and the most dedicated doctors and nurses that I could ever ask for ...

My parents and my sister are recovering from corona, after Dad spent two months in the hospital recovering.

We almost lost Dad, until a corona survivor stepped forward and donated convalescent plasma, and Dad finally pulled through.

For all of this, I am thankful.

I am blessed to teach 100 students this year --- online.

Several of them have health concerns, and I will do all I can to help each one find success in this unprecedented school year.

They are putting their hearts and souls into learning ... their dedication inspires me ... and reminds me that we WILL pull through this TOGETHER.

I am thankful for the camaraderie, support, encouragement, and fellowship that continues to abound here, throughout the year.

We welcome new members, and we all know the importance of being there for the weary traveler ... who sometimes simply needs some shelter from the storm.

This Thanksgiving, I plan to take a long afternoon walk, as I begin to set my sights on a new year ahead ...
