How do I find a good Oncologist on the Mississippi Gulf Coast? Any suggestions or where/how to find and Oncologist in the area?

Cancer diagnosis August 2015, a couple of weeks after turning 57, PSA was 6.75

Surgery October 12, 2015, radiation completed early spring 2016. Final path Tb3 NO, SV+, Gleason 9.

First non-detect PSA was on 10/18/16 followed another 3/2/17 and then the non-detect fell off at .020.

Returned to original URO and PSA ran .01 until 8/23/19 when PSA came in at .02.
9/3/20 PSA .was 09, Retest 12/28.20 and PSA was .15

Start of 2020 PSA was .02 and now PSA .15

My URO has said nothing about this trend, next appointment with the URO is for March 2021, and frankly I see no reason to return.

I investigated the radiation facilities within an area I was willing to drive and then used the internet to evaluate who I thought was best.

Drive a few miles west to Tulane medical Center in New Orleans. Dr. Oliver Sartor. The best in the Deep South.

Agree with Sartor, one of the top in country. Saw him while he was at Harvard Medical before he went to Tulane

Thanks guys, I booked marked his site at Tulane and will see if he is taking on patients.

Is Dr. Oliver Sartor one of those that believes castration is the first step in additional treatment?

Don’t be silly, ntzguy. He has been on the leading edge for research and treatment for advanced and difficult cases for several decades. Several men that have been members on HW have been treated by him. One I know of is Nolavette. Reach out and message him for his experience, which has been very successful. As I understand, Dr. Sartor will make a detailed assessment of your situation and then tailor a treatment plan for you as an individual. There is no standard first step in all cases.

But, if you mean by castration, does he use ADT as a treatment regimen, of course, when it is evidence indicated to be the best for a specific situation. Thankfully we have many ADT drugs in the treatment arsenal, some that eliminate testosterone and some that block its use by the cancer that have proven safe and effective in many cases. As a top drawer doctor he uses the tools and methods that have the best indication of working. Go to PubMed and read his scores of publications to learn more about his work,

You are very high risk, G9, and now likely systemic and perhaps advanced after failed surgery and SRT. The work of your urologist was over when the surgery failed. At that point, being G9 and young, it would have been good, in my opinion, to have brought in a medical oncologist like Sartor. But, now you know, and are getting on a proper, and, hopefully, an effective track.
