I have seen 2 HDR specialists in Atlanta. One indicated that he would not recommend HDR for me because I have a median lobe that extends to the bladder. The other noticed this, but still is comfortable with HDR.

I would like a 3rd opinion regarding this from another HDR expert. Do any if you have a recommendation regarding someone who I can consult with?

UCLA has a well regarded HDR brachy program started by Dr Demanes, who is considered one of the pioneers of HDR brachy. But I don't think he has any day-to-day involvement with the program anymore, although it's his team that is in place. Obviously on the other side of the country, but perhaps worth a consult. Todd, hopefully JNF (Jack) will chime in on this thread. If not you should email him. He had successful HDR Brachy, is in Atlanta and very knowledgeable about the docs in your area.

Todd, Jack here. The center at Emory on the Northside has the former St. Joseph Prostate Cancer Center and is now part of the Winship Cancer Center. I believe it is called Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital on Peachtree-Dunwoody Rd just south of GA400 and across from the main Northside Hospital complex.

They have been doing HDR-BT for at least 15 years. I know several men that were treated there, but I don’t know any of the doctors personally.

Thanks Jack. Emory was the group that would not recommend HDR due to the lone. Dr McCord is comfortable with it. Did you ever locate Dr Levitt?

Thanks Todd. No, I haven’t located him, but I have a few emails out to doctors I know. Just waiting on a response. I’ll keep you posted.

Dr. Matthew Biagioli in the Orlando are has experience with doing HDR brachy procedures.

I had my HDR at Emory Urology at St. Josephs, but my doctor, an avid skier, moved to Colorado a few years ago. Dr. Peter Rossi in Colorado Springs.

I’ve been very pleased though but I think you’re right to get more opinions.

Good call 0311. Dr. Alvaro Martinez I believe in the Beaumont network. He took the original treatment protocols from the pioneer, Dr. Jeffrey Demanes, which required overnight hospitalization, and developed the current most widely used outpatient treatment method. He also pushed the dose limits to help develop single fraction and HDR mono-therapy for low to intermediate cases. He is a widely published researcher as well as a very busy practitioner.

Update: The bcbs dispute with Northside hospital in Atlanta has not been resolved and my request for a continuance of care still has no response. Thus, Dr McCord says he can’t treat me.

I had a Zoom consultation with Dr Martinez in Detroit. He will perform hdr, depending on the results of a volume scan that determines the urethra trajectory and the pubic arch. Trying to find someone in Atlanta area that will perform this test based on Dr Martinez orders. So far, have struck out.

May be traveling to Detroit for this scan.

Meanwhile, have started firmagon and zytiga. Second firmagon shot on January 7.

Have you checked with Dr. Kriteman regarding the urologic tests? He might be able to help you in that regard. Let me know if I can help you get in. I’m anxious to hear more about your consult with Dr. Martinez. And I am amazed the BCBS Northside issue is unresolved. That leaves some 400,000 people in the lurch and most have no idea.

And, Happy New Year. Surely in our Atlanta winter-spring you have been playing golf.

Didn’t think about dr kriteman. The test is really an RO test, but I will check Tuesday to see if they know a place that performs it. Dr Martinez office is working with Emory as a possibility.
