Well, after 2 years of undetected readings my PSA just became detected at 0.04. Nothing to do now but recheck in 3 months.

Well that sucks Howard, sorry to hear it. However, it could easily be an anomaly. .04 is not anything to get to concerned about just yet, especially considering your post surgery pathology along with the fact that you tested undetectable for 2 years after SRT. Did you have ADT along with the Radiation?

With that said, it's certainly something to monitor. I think, from my relatively limited knowledge, that even if it's real, you are a long way from treatment, or even scans to try to find the source. So I would just retest in 3 months. I'm guessing you haven't spoken to your Dr yet, and that when you do, thats what he will say.

I'd add, try to forget about it till your retest, but that would be silly, I know better, from my own experience.

Did you get tested at the same lab you normally go to?

Sorry about that news. Hope it's just a one-off test result.

You may already do this, but remember to abstain from any food or vit/min pills, etc., containing biotin (B-7) for three days before a blood draw, as it can give false low or false high lab results. My Labcorp office has a notice taped to the wall.

Several on this site (myself included) has had anomalous readings after long periods of non-detection. Mine bumped up to 0.08 from <0.02 after 7 years of non-detection. Then after two months of getting the detectable value, another blood test (same lab) came back with non-detectable results. A lot of speculating about how these labs operate their internal/external quality control - just to say ‘hang in there Howard!’

I didn't know of this site and its wealth of experience and knowledge until about 2 years after my RP. Thankfully, I became aware of the possibility of a change in "undetectable" PSA readings. Up until that time I had been tested monthly post RALP for several months and then semi-annually. I quit getting the PSA blood work through my uro/surgeon as the results were consistently undetectable at .01 and I thought it was a waste of time at that point. BUT, this site brought to my attention that different labs, may result in different readings, so I was aware of the possibility of an uptick to what the results had been. They were. Now the two other labs I go to, for a variety of reasons other than PCa conduct a PSA in addition to whatever else they think they'll find. But both labs are consistently showing my PSA as .04. You've saved me tons of worry. Thanks.
