I Don’t know why but a couple weeks before my next PSA (going for the third), I get in a panic depressed state anyone feeling that way or once its out its GONE like ya never had it that’s kinda the reaction I get at the office     Live Simply,Love Generously, Care Deeply, Speak Kindly, Leave the rest to GOD.... hi MJR

i have not yet finished my treatments, but i know that i will be facing PSA tests for the rest of my life.  I am sure that I will have some concern before each test and be nervous waiting for the results.  I think you will find that most PC patients feel this way.  Let's face it, no one can really understand PC until they get it.  Here is a little excerpt from a recent posting I made which kind of answers how others view us:

"Outside of this website, I don't think that we get all of the understanding and empathy we deserve.  Even close members of one's family cannot fully understand the challenges and deep emotions that men face with prostate cancer.  Because PC is slow growing for the most part and, if caught early, it has an excellent chance of being cured.  Therefore, I think many people tend to play down prostate cancer and minimize the side effects that treatment force upon us."  They also don't realize that we face those PSA tests until we take our last breath and that any of us potentially face recurring PC.  At present, I have blocked that thought from my mind.

Hi MJR.  I've only had one PSA test since surgery (which freaked me out) but I've talked to a few guys who are anywhere from three to six years out and they tell me they really sweated out the first year or so of PSA testing.  They also say they stopped worrying after about three years of undetacble scores.  So I guess what I'm saying is what you're feeling is normal. Going for those PSAs is like going in, over-and-over, to be tested for cancer.  And we all know what that feeling was like when we were told we had cancer.  We don't want to hear it again.  So let's keep the operative word here HAD -- AS IN THE PAST.  AS IN GONE!!!     It may be because of how comfortable I am with my Dr. But, since mine was contained to the prostate and the all the labs came back clear for everything else they took out. Two 0.00 PSA's! I never worry about the cancer comming back.

    I just want to get dry!!!

Its natural to feel anxious about something that threatens our life. Look at it but don't stare. Reach out to us when you feel fear. That is what we are here for - each other...

Regards PSA tests after surgery: What is the "normal" time for the first test (I have heard both 6 weeks and 3 months). Then how frequently after that given the results are good? Thanks in advance.  Ed

We are having da vinci on April 10, 2007. Our doctor says he does them at four weeks (which seems early to me), eight weeks, three months and then six months.

But every doctor seems to do it different, I have also seen first one at 3 months. I would ask your surgeon what he does at your pre-op consult.

Thanks ALL its nice ta know I'm not the only one whos nuts over this, Relax take life a tad more seriously having more fun doing it don't miss my grand daughter and stay dry seems to be the Key.

Lucky ME pretty dry after a couple of months lil reminder now and then just to keep me honest no real ed problems. looking ahead.
