HI

I am 65 live in rural colorado have a 4.62 psa Gleason 3+3=6

biopsy of 2 sites of 12 T1c rectal.

.19 ratio to size.

Except for this I'm in good shape did a triathlon 3 days after my biopsy.

Guess I just need feedback.

We are from colorado too, and so is aztec (alex), as well as MichaelM. What part of colorado are you from? We live up in Genesee (Denver foothills), Alex is near colorado springs, and Michael is in Boulder.

I wouldn't take too long to wait and watch, personally. We found it took a long time to get consults scheduled, and then to get on the surgery schedule after that, so would at least get those scheduled to make a good decision.

You sound like you are in excellent shape, but prostate cancer doesn't care too much about that, unfortunately :( But it will help you no matter what treatment decision you should make.

Welcome to this forum. You do have some time to look around and make the decision that is right for you. We had robotic with Stephen Ruyle. Michael had robotic at the same place with Montoya (they work as a team) and are based at the new Urology Center of Colorado in Denver. They offer open surgery, robotic, and a few radiation treatments (IGRT, IMRT and brachytherapy). You might also want to check out proton beam (although not offered here .. they do it out at loma linda in CA and at Anderson in Texas).

Hey Phil,

This is the place to be for info, support and hope for those of us with Prostate Cancer. The thread "Helpful Hints and Direct Links" will point you to our experiences which might be helpful. We are all different and each of us has our own reasons for choosing our treatments. We don't try to sell any treatment but rather we share our experience, strength and hope with each other.

Thanks for your quick responses.  I live in Durango.  I was hopeing to visit my kids on the coast in July so did not want to schedule anything before August.  My wife will have time then to stay with me for a week.  The Urologist here is leaning toward surgery.

Phil,

Start the selenium, watch the PSA for any sudden rise and go enjoy your summer. From your stats, you have more than enough time to keep your plans no matter which treatment route you choose. Good Luck.

Hi Phil, sorry to have you join our group, but you will find a lot of great info here. Our local doctor told us that he wanted a decision made by 5 weeks post biopsy. That would give him 2 weeks to get us in for surgery if that was our decision. We did opt for surgery, however, we traveled to texas to have the da vinci. Kurt was diagnosised on Jan 29th and had surgery March 14th, seven weeks post biopsy. We feel very lucky to have had the option of having the surgery done rather quickly. His PCa had reached the margins, it just hadn't penetrated them. How long could we have waited, we will never know. Following his surgery, he was up walking the same day, came home 2 days later, and slowly started working 2 weeks later. Now, he is in full swing of things and even played golf on Friday. Good luck with your decision. Kurt says the hardest part of surgery is that you feel so good so quickly you really have to watch yourself so that you don't over do it. Courtney

Hi Phil2: We are all "wired differently" so I believe it is important for each of us to make our own decisions. I could not wait to make a decision. I did all the research before I had the biopsy results and scheduled surgery when I saw the doctor explaining the biopsy. There are so many options available that it will take time to determine what YOU want to do. However, remember that the "good" doctors are normally booked for a few months in advance. I was so relieved when I made the decision.  Ed
