Just found this site, and glad I did.  Was Dx 5 weeks ago with a PSA of 2.5, and a Gleeson 7 (3+4), clean bone scan, & Stage T2.  Scheduled for surgery, open, in 3 weeks. Have the same concerns I am reading about here, but doing OK. Looking forward to when this is out, and get the test back after surgery. Always something to occupy the mind!

Thank you for the kind words, warm wishes, and most of all the prayers!!!

Age 60, surgery is 5/17.  open surgery, too long of a wait in the Philadelphia area for Robotics, but hey, who's complaining??

Feeling fine just had dinner with a survivor from 3 years post surgery, he had both surgery, and radiation.  He is doing GREAT!!!

will stay close by in the weeks ahead!!

Hi Broker,

Sorry that you are here but it is the best fellowship you will have in helping you through PCa.  You have already made a treatment decision so that is the first big step.  Those that have had good recoveries have gotten themselves in very good shape prior to the surgery so if you have not started get out there and walk or exercise everyday.  There are plenty of threads on this forum about all aspects of PCa treatments.  Bluebird knows how to naviagte the site so if you have any questions about where and how to find a thread give her a holler.  Also, if you could put your information in your signature it will help as you post on the site.  To do that go to Control Panel in the upper left corner of the page and then click on Edit Profile.  You can then scroll down to Signature and enter your information.  Be sure to hit the Submit button.  Others will chime in soon.  I am sure that there are others on the site from the Philadelphia area.

tongue  Hello Everyone!!

Just overwhelmed by the uplifting words of support, best wishes, and prayers. Talked to my surgeon this AM, due to the constant phone calls from my GP.  Since he received the MRI, and bone scan reports, that have been given the Green light by my surgeon, and Radiologist, he has had me get a x-ray on my upper back, and also wanted a different MRI. Got the e-xray which showed no fracture, but he , & nurse keep calling,  Told themany concerns should be funneled through my Urologist/surgeon. The GP has caused me more stress than the PC itself.

Sorry to go on, and on, just bugged by this ANNAL GP!!!

yeah  Otherwise just counting down to removal day!!!

Dear Broker,

Hi. We have been rather absorbed in our own recovery in the past fortnight, but I will be glad to pray for you too, as in the end, this is what really helped us lately. I had several people tell me they could not pray for me, and this I understood completely. But faith is a remarkable gift I think and when shared with others sometimes when the chips are very downish (!), really helps. Along with many others here my hubby and I will be also praying for you. Good luck and keep us posted. Hope the frustrating array of appointments and communication crosses has settled by now. It is a hard system to negotiate overall. cheers, Lana & CJ.

Seems like CJ came out with EXCELLENT results!

I have paused here for a second opinion. Am flying out to Zion, Il. in 2 weeks to the Cancer Treatment center of America for a second opinion. The fact that they can offer ALL types of treatment gives me  a better overall feeling.

Just asking a silly question. Why all the pretests with a PSA of 2.5? Is there a significant lump on the prostate that gives the Doc reason to be concerned about cancer having spread or are there other medical issues he's being cautious about? I am not a big fan of unecessary radiation and testing. Just wondered why yours is, is all. Good Luck to your with the second opinion.

I have according to my Urologist a fairly high Gleeson score, at least thats what he tells me. Surgerons recommend surgery, plain and simple.  If there is any spread out of the prostate there is no way to tell till after surgery, and then radiation is used.  I am not a big fan of open surgery, and a 2 to 3 month recovery when there are proven methods that have less side affects with the same long term results.  Also by going to a cancer center that offers All types of treatment, I am getting a more OBJECTIVE POINT OF VIEW!

Actually, you have a Gleason that is claimed to behave more like a Gleason 6 than say, a 4+3 would. The tamer of the two Gleason 7's. I was just curious is all. You had not mentioned anything other than the Gleason, PSA and stage.

I tend to look at it like a 6.5 Gleeson score, but maybe because I'm a little biased! I didn't mention anyting else because my Uro didn't give me much more than i stated.  I got a copy of the MRI, that is how I found out I was stage 2, and my GP gave me my bloodwork scores.  All in all not real pleased with this Uro surgeon.  Will fill everyone in when I get back from the Cancer Treatment center!

Good luck at the cancer treatment center. To be a T2, they say that it must be feelable, or on both sides. My husband was a T2c, but only because it was on both sides. Nothing could be felt. The day before his surgery, the doc did an ultrasound and found an enlargement near the bladder. Post op, All was clear, no margins crossed. Now we are waiting for first PSA, in 2 weeks. Remember, that you have to be your own advocate. Ask the docs for the info you want. Courtney

I have mentioned this is other posts but I found it very helpful to get in the best physical shape possible. I worked out 2-3 hours a day on abs, upper body strength and cardio including a one hour power walk each day. I believe it helped me very much in my sugical recovery.  Ed

Welcome to the forum, lots of good reading here and a wealth of information available.....didn't take me long to find out a little about pc and that whatever shape you're in, theres always someone thats been there and done that to cheer you on....remember you are not alone in your walk, many many have gone ahead of you and are still around to talk about it. I wish you luck with your surgery, fortunately in my little area of the world I found a davinci surgeon fairly closeby and was able to get mine scheduled within a couple weeks on my initial consult with him. If you haven't figured it out yet, get ready!!! it's like nothing you've ever experienced before....again, good luck...jwb

As I mentioned I am postponing my surgery till I meet with the cancer specialist at the Cancer Treatment Center of America (CTCA.com).  At this point I am not 100% sold on Surgery as the ONLY solution.  I would suggest you visit their web site, it is a Great source of information.

I love the CTCA! Their "whole" approach to treating cancer is very promising. Course, I'm a weed eater anyway:>) I'm anxious to hear all about it when you get back.

Thanks Broker for the referral to Cancer Treatment Center, I also realize that surgery isn't the only option available, but for me it was a start as from all the information I initially had on my case mine was contained within the prostate......well, it didn't turn out that way so now for me radiation is the next step. Everyones case is a little different as are philosophies on how to handle it......I talked to several survivors of PC and they were all told to first if possible, GET IT OUT!!!. I didn't feel that way at first, but after exploring some other options, seeds, proton beam, etc I opted for surgery ASAP......might have been wrong, but I feel like I did the right thing for me. I wish you well in your exploration and hope that whatever treatment you pick will work well for you.....Good Luck. jwb

You are so right in the thinking of; "GET T OUT"!  Usually this is being said by the surgeon.  HDR attacts the cancer cells from the inside and kills them, this is also another method of "GETTING THEM OUT"! 

Should be an interesting trip.  Good luck to you, and your family in the journey forward!!
