Thanks for the input on the hot flashes. It made me feel better to know that a few others have had the same or somewhat similar experience.

My surgery was on Friday, the eleventh. With the catheter in my penis has been almost embarassingly small. As I begin to relax or drift off I have these intense spasms that I have figured are probably my bladder trying to reject the catheter. Starting yesterday the spasms seem to be getting more intense. I noticed that my penis was beginning to extend to more of it's normal length by the end of the day, but I'm beginning to experience some soreness below my scrotum that feels like it's the catheter getting tender in that area. Does anyone else get these spasms?

Ken's doctor prescribe detrol LA for 10 days after the surgery for bladder spasms. He never had one.

But his penis was very small until the catheter came out (like it was hiding forever, lol). But, since then has kinda "come out" a bit.

I am not sure if what you are describing is actual "bladder spasms" or not. But if so, they should be able to prescribe something for them. Hopefully someone who has had bladder spasms can confirm if that is what you are having.

ken has had some tenderness in the perinium, just starting a few days ago. But that was a few weeks after catheter out and doctor said that was normal, as have several said on here. I am not sure about that pain before catheter is out.

I would call your doctor, just to make sure what is going on with both those symptoms. Probably nothing. But just to make sure.

Hi CVK, Kurt had awful bladder spasms the night of his surgery. I had left the hospital to grab a bite with my mother, received a call within 5 minutes that he hurt but had the nurses coming and before 30 minutes was up, I had received 3 more calls, with the last one saying come back. I was gone a total of 45 mins and they had given him Detrol, then morphine, then something stronger. When he got out the next day, we made sure we stayed on a routine with the detrol. He took one or two extra during the next week when he started to feel like maybe he was having spasms. The medicine really helped. Nothing occured (major) after that first night.
We did have to travel to have the da vinci, and the back for the cath removal. The doc asked that we stayed at least 24 hours after removal to make sure that he didn't have spasms then. Make sure you ask your doctor. If you are having slight spasms now, I wouldn't want you to miss out on an easy pill to make sure that you don't experience he pain Kurt went through. Oh, and no spasms after the removal. Good luck to you. Courtney

Hey Curt its pete, I had spasms (what you are discribing doesn't sound like one to me the pain is INTENSE) caused by passing a small blood clot. I too had the twinges you are discribing, it felt like my insides and my penis were stretching back causing twinges or pain that lasted a few minutes if that. I also had pain in the area below my scrotum but this was more like an ache. It is worse if I stay in one position a longtime but passes quickly is I walk around. I think we are experiencing the "things are getting back to normal" phase.i

A week from today. My urologist wants it in for a full two weeks. Can't wait to be rid of it. How are you doing without yours?

I had mine in for a week, I'm doing remarkably well considering some of the posts Ive read here in the past. I am wearing one pad a day and 90% of the time I am staying completely dry. The other 10% is just a few slight drips.

I had all kinds of problems with the catheter. The worst started before where you are on the timeline. I had bad constipation from the pain killers and the stool softeners just didn't work right. (I seem to have a weird physiology. Painkillers wake me up too.) I got to where I was peeing around the catheter during bowel movements. That was BAD. You would know by now if that was going to happen. Fortunately, I didn't suffer any long term problems from it. It sounds like you are just going through the routine. It gets much better. Good Luck!!
