Our son will be having the robotic surgery July 10 and he is so anxious to hear from those that have had it!!! I do not remember his PSA but lower than yours I THINK or there about ...Biopsy 17 samples. Gleason score is 6 and T1 and T2. I do not know what that means exactly...but Dr feels like it is all contained in the prostate. From the discussion we had with the surgeon your symptoms do not seem OUT OF CONTROL. Welcome Bobs mom, glad you found us and Im sure Bob will be too. Please know that this is a great group of supportive people who are going through just what you and your family are right now. You will find advice, comfort , wisdom, love and sometimes the well intentioned kick-in-the-pants. No question is too silly, no topic off limits. Hi Bob's MOM,

Welcome to this forum and I hope you stay too, and get lots of useful info. My husband and I were so lucky to have both my mum, and my husband's mum, stand by our side recently through his prostate cancer surgery. Although my parent's in law live 7 hours away and could not be actually here, we were in contact every day for weeks. Our mums both gave us much appreciated close support, love and tenderness, and they continue to be our main sources of stength (along with our dads who we are also lucky to have too). In fact, my mum is about the only one I can really talk to with no reservations, about all this from a wife's perspective. She understands, as I am sure you do. Welcome again. Bob is lucky to have such a loving mother!

Check out the helpful hints for surgery in the links above - we found the hints invaluable in preparing for surgery. There are several practical things we found assisted comfort also while in hospital. ie. taking a small (kid's) woolen underlay to put over the plastic hospital bed, under the fitted sheet (from about half way up bed to shoulders/head). This stopped (or at least reduced) perspiration for the first post op hours in bed and first night, and was helpful.

Anyway, I hope this is helpful as I do not usually offer any advice being quite new to this experience myself MOM. Good luck and keep in touch. It is lovely to have another mother here.

JUST posting here to let you know BOB has been here and read some over the weekend. Naturally, he is overwhelmed!!! He goes Thurs AM for his pre-op and dreading that too and knows nothing to it!!!! Been a busy weekend and a busy week so I haven't been here but he will be back on. Thanks so much for this...I am not sure how much or what he has read so can't comment on that. I wish he could type. He isn't good at it, but CAN type in the google spot to get to TRANS AMS FOR SALE!!!!! LOL He loves those cars and hopefully will have one again in the future!
Again, thank you so much and I HOPE he will SIGN IN when he comes. I reminded him to refresh and he has that down so learning....

I HAVE BEEN TRYING to search out what supplies to have on hand when he comes home. AFTER reading post by ARGYLEGOLF (BLESS HIM FOR HIS HUMOR) I find I better have depends on hand. I asked the Dr during our visit and he said NOTHING! WELL, wait till I see him again!!!! Anything else you can tell me I will appreciate. Now I am going to search out the THERALOGIX.com site. THANKS

Hi Mom
The depends are a really good idea, but we found that having the incontinence pads for men along with the depends worked even better. That way the "underpants" part of the depends are for overflows of the pad, but is really less feeling like a diaper as the liquid is confined to the actual pad.

My Bob wore the two together for quite awhile and then graduated to just the pad. The other thing was we never once referred to the "pull ups" as a diaper.

Tell Bob to submit his thoughts even if he can't type . . he can do it one finger style and if he can't spell . . . .well who cares .. .we'll know what he means .. . .and he CAN read what we post back.

Today was pre-op and got that out of the way! BOB is getting pretty shaky over this whole ordeal and certainly not looking forward to it. He went upstairs at the hospital hoping some of the nurses we know would be working but NOT. On other floors etc., but they will check in with us. Hopefully, we can find someone to hire the first night to stay with him. We have been told to HAVE SOME FAMILY MEMBER THERE DURING THE FIRST NIGHT. Because of our ages....we just don't feel we can do it and living 70 miles away. Last year we went thru 5 surgeries with my husband (broken arm and a bladder stone the size of his bladder) so we have HAD the 'experience' except they have done ME IN!! Oh, I am 75 and husband is 80 in case I didn't say.

hi Bobs mom and Bob,

I saw your other post where Bob came through surgery just fine. I'm sure he's feeling better every day; soon the catheter will be a thing from the past. tell him that my husband just sold his 1975 Firebird for $500 to a 16 yr old and his dad who have 3 of them that they are using to build one. it took Jeff about 5 years to sell this rusting hulk of steel that's been sitting in my yard for years. :) take care, kat
