Muse Questions

I just had my 6 month checkup after a radical prostatectomy in February.

All went well then and seems great now.  The cancer was confined.  Tests before surgery, 19 biopsies at the time of surgery and PSA tests since seem to confirm that, nerves were spared and I am just starting to regain control over my bladder.

I have used viagra 4-5 times without any noticable results and yesterday my doctor suggested Muse, 1000 mcg (the strongest dosage made).  The problem is the cost, $738 for a six pack.  I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has used it and feels the cost is worth it.

My wife and I went into this process with a 2 year time frame and are not anxious or worried.  We have not heard much good about Muse and are hesitant to spend that much money without some better feedback.

Things seems on track and going well both physically and sexually and we have little motivation to spend money on viagra which has no effect much less that much more on Muse.

Any feedback would be apprecaited.

I am on about the same time line as you.  I have had some success with pills and pump. But wanted something better.

I decided to bypass the Muse suppository at my doctors advice.  I recently started injections.  I am at 20mcg of Caverject.  So far my results have been positive.

I too am concerned about the cost.  My insurance pays $0.  Everything is out of pocket.  The Caverject starts at about $20+ per injection. That could be thousands of dollars a year out of pocket. tongue  (wishful thinking)   Others who have tried trimix and bimix pay as little as a few dollars per injection.

You will notice I have an open discussion about pricing and results of injections. Please keep sharing information, it helps us all. My doctor said I have a good chance at future erectile success, without pills or shots.  I hope he is right.

Whoa!! That is expensive!! What I have read of Muse it is only effective in about 30% of the men who have tried it and there are possible complications with the lining of the uretha. My urologist recommended injections over the use of Muse. He said of his patients that elected Muse because of the fear of the needle almost all of them eventually went with injections. I am using Bimix due to aching from Caverjet. Initially my cost was about $3.00 an injection. In June my urologist suggested that I combine Viagra and the Bimix and since then I have been able to reduce my dosage by at least half so my cost is now less then $2.00 an injection. I know the thought of injecting yourself in the penis is full of pain and anxiety but those of us that have been doing it can tell you there is very little pain and it works almost 100% of the time. The most important outcome is the rehab effect. You do not want to go months without generating erections either with the use of a pump or injections. To do so can cause some atrophy that may not be reversable.

Hi Scott,

I tried muse over 10 years ago. 

Funny story: I was at the supermarket pharmacy with my wife those many years ago and she was picking up my Muse prescription for the first time along with her prescriptions.   The pharmacy was very crowded and I was behind the crowd handling the shopping cart.  One of the new young female assistants picked out the Muse prescription bottle and asked my wife in a loud voice, "Muse? What's that for?" My wife had a little smile on her face and answered out loudly, slowly and clearly "E-Rec-Tile Dys-Func-Tion."  The assistant said "Oh!" and continued packing the prescriptions with what was now a red face.

Back to Muse... It was weird for me to apply... Here are some of the instructions:

Before using urethral suppositories, the man urinates. This helps to insure the moist surfaces that help the medication to be absorbed. With a small applicator, the man inserts a pellet of medication into his urethra, the small hole on the tip of the penis. He then massages his penis for about a minute to help the pellet dissolve. To help speed absorption, he should also remain upright for several minutes. 

It hurt sometimes, and wasn't effective in my opinion.

Hi Scott,
I tried Muse and it caused too much pain with not much of an erection. Your Urologist has samples and can give them to you to try before you purchase anything. They will also give you sample injections and show you how to do it yourself at home. The (Key) on injections is getting small needles. Others on here can tell you what size to get. It is (very) important to at least keep taking viagra for maintenance purposes. It takes at least a year and a half for nerves to fully regenerate so be patient and keep playing with it until it starts working again.

Hi Scott- I tried MUSE four times, the pain was just too much for me so I've stopped. I talked to my dr. about injections and I am having my first teaching session in October. My Dr. explained to me that the MUSE suppository supplies a large amount of the medicine used for erections with the "hope" that some of it will make its way to the spongey tissue of the penis. The terrible aching comes from the excess medication. Maybe your dr. can give you a sample to

try but for the cost you quoted I wouldn't waste your money.

I have not posted for a while, but this thread got my interest.  I am about 6 1/2 months out of DaVinci on Feb 8, 2007 and have not had any luck with Levitra or Viagra and very little result (pardon the pun) with cialis, but at least a little.  My wife and I have been getting by with the vacujet and that helps a lot, but it is not like before.  I tried the muse and it did not work and was very painful.

The note from one of you that finally got an erection after 9 months gives me hope.  I am supposed to go into the SF VA office this Thursday, August 30 to try my first injection so I would appreciate any input from those of you that have tried it.  I understand there are 2 or 3 different types of medication that can be used for the injection with various results and I am interested to find out what the opinions are as to which one is the best and what dosage.  How long does it take for the erections to begin after the injection and how long does it normally last?

I would appreciate any information.
