Tanya,

In a brochure that came with my pump, I read that the physicians like to start with the pump as some peyronies-like bends are often experienced with the first erections.  "Turning the pump off and on" (really just releasing the vacuum) allows the bend  to correct theraputically rather than just staying bent for the duration of the injection-erection.

Ken and Tanya- Nice to hear from you and especially that things are going well. Don't stress over the ED issues, most of us are in the same boat. Im on 50 mg viagra everyother day, does nothing. Have used MUSE 500 mg and 100 Viagra and that produced an erection sufficient for intercourse (still about 75-80% in my book) Im starting the pump next week and go to see ED doc about the injections in the first part of August. I've decided to be pro-active about this and try whats ever out there to speed up the process. Yes, it cumbersome sometimes, yes, it sure does a number on spontineity and yes, I wish it was all over. But hey, life goes on and we make the best of what we have. Please keep checking in with us its nice to hear from "old" firends. Pete

The pump is great for getting the blood flow to the tissues. It is important to maintain that. I used it daily at least 2 times a day just to keep the blood flowing and to try and not lose what little size I have. I was told by my Doc that is common to lose size due to improper care of the tissues post surgery. The pills were supposed to do that for me but didn't. My wife and I didn't care for the pump much when it came to intercourse. She didn't like the feel of the restrictor bands and I didn't like the mildly painful orgasms and neither of us liked the time it took. It sure can put a cramp on the old spontaneity. Not everyone has those issues so I hope the pump works for you.

My point, really, is this..... If the pump works for you, great. It is an inexpensive tool that is non invasive and doesn't have any side effects (that I'm aware of) when used properly. If it doesn't work for you.... the shots are wonderful. They take effect quickly, produce long lasting erections (think multiple orgasms for BOTH of you) and I firmly believe are responsible for waking up my nerves. (just my opinion) So don't be afraid of them. There are possible side effects though. Improper injecting can lead to scaring and curvature among others.

A piece of advise, IF you ultimately choose to try injections, don't use the Caverject needle if that is the compound your Doc wants to try on you. The needle is huge. Insist on the diabetic syringes with the fine needle. If your Doc balks on that point go to another one.

Ken & Tanya - Nice to hear from you again. We are at about the same place on our rod to recovery. I have had the pump for a little over a month, honestly say I'm not too wild about it. For me its uncomfortable, the tension rings are a pain and the erection I get is not really firm enough for intercourse. I use it daily, however, to keep the blood flow going to the tissues. I met with my ED doctor last week. I am definately going for the injections but the first appointment I can get for the training isn't until the first part of October. Until then, positive thoughts, daily viagra! Best to you both.

Hey Ken and Tanya,

Congrats on you progress. I'm about the same condition with no incontinence but lots of ED. I had my first shot this week and it really works good. The injection was no big deal. The thought of it was worse than doing it. (Another hurdle behind us now.) Also, Viagra is working better now. Must be some connection there.

Looking forward to your success with ED...

Hi Tanya (and Ken),

We are in about the same boat, with much the same progress that you describe after 4 months. Have found the posts by others very useful for reassurance and strategies - progress still slow on the ED but good on the continence for us too, however hubby feels some improvement each day so we wait patiently and with hope as always! So sorry to hear about your aunt as I am off for another mamo on Wednesday. I am on yearly breast checks now after a (benign) scare in 2004 and each one is a little freaky to say the least!!

Have just rescheduled both of us (hubby and I), to have another health check next week, and then back to the gym, as we have also put on weight too, which I tend to think (for us) is the fallout of the emotional pain, so we try not to stress and just try to move on positively to loose it now by Christmas and CJ's 50th birthday when I plan to have him in fantastic shape to celebrate! Thanks for the inspiration - it sounds like you are well on the way to weight loss.

Take good care of yourselves. It is really nice to hear you are busy with life, and well overall. Stay safe both of you, and keep well. Lana

Hi, Iz! Sounds like you two are progressing so well! But, busy with other issues, as well. Cancer running in families is one to stay on top of. And one we all take personally now. We'll be looking forward to the next PSA right here with you. It's always good to see you pop in. Don't go away!

     Hi ~ Tanya & Ken, Wow!! .... another month behind us!!!   Thanks for the 4 th month update… Nice to have history to pull from.   Amazing how so many find out after the fact that members of the family have had this disease and/or other diseases.   It’s coming more and more to the forefront and we are all helping to raise awareness…     Sounds like the South Beach is working!!!   Stay healthy and continue to Stay Close. thanks bluebird :) I had the date wrong, the PSA is tomorrow (thursday) and then a follow-up appt  next week (I put it on my puter calendar wrong).  Then we are going on a trip to AZ for a few days for ken's grandson's birthday.

Will be sure to update ya all on results!

Our thoughts and prayers here in Central Texas are with you and your family.
When my dad suddenly passed away from an aortic abdominal aneurism, while we are a large family strong in our faith, - for the longest time it was very difficult for us as no one really knew how to act.  Dad' eccentric personality was so strong (He really did make his living during the Depression as a cedar post chopper...), his absence was an engulfing silence.
Just be there for one another , as we are for you.
Pick up his mantle and wear it!  It's what a family does.

I'm so sorry to hear f your dad's sudden passing. My dad passed away earlier this year so I know a bit about how draining it can be dealing with that sorrow and loss as you continue to deal with PC recovery. Be sure not to expect too much from yourself spend as much time with your family as you can - I will be praying for you -
