ED question

 

Hello all,

I am now one month post surgery. I have been using about

1\3 one third of a levitra tablet now for one week as instructed by my doctor. So far I have not felt anything on that small of an amount. He suggested that I take a whole tablet after the second week of taking the partial tablets. My question is, if a full tablet does me no good, should I then start using a penis pump?

Does anyone have any advice as to which pump to buy and where do I get one. I googled penis pump and got a bunch of stuff for penis enlargement but there are so many offered I didn't know which one I should order. Should I get a hand pump or motorized?.

What brand worked best for you and where did you get it. Cost is not a factor  as I want to get one that will be effective on that little booger.

Am I jumping the gun on this after four weeks. Is it too early for a pump?

I would appreciate any info you may have on this.

There is no standard for when to move on to other methods for ED once you have started the medications and no results. At my six week post op appointment and after I had been using Viagra for three weeks with no results my urologist discussed both the pump and injections with me. He recommended the injections because he felt that I was highly motivated to get return of erections. I opted for the pump and he provided a prescription. He gave me a prescription for both the Osbon and Vacurect. I opted for the Vacurect. Insurance paid 80% of the cost. After about six weeks of using the pump I decided that I could handle the injections. I used the pump a couple of times a week after starting injections and now I do not use it at all. For me the rings on the pump and the engorgement produced by the vacuum were more uncomfortable then the pin prick from the needle. But you have to try the pump to know whether or not it is for you. The pump also allows you to rehab the penis a couple of times a day while the injections you can only use every three days.

I have spent the last month trying to get my insurance company to cover a vacuum device, but to no avail. Since I'm going to have to buy one out of pocket and my funds are not enormous, I'm going to have to consider one of the less expensive pumps. What are the disadvantages of the lower end of the cost spectrum? Other than the tension ring designs, I really don't see significant differences in the models.

Do any of you have strong feelings about pumps that I should NOT buy because of design flaws/inconveniences?

I have the Osbon Erecaid Esteem.  I use it for rehab as directed by my surgeon.

It is easy to use and I believe it is very safe.  If your insurance won't shell out the $500 like mine did, then you have an alternative.  The Osbon Erecaid Classic.  This device often retails for less than $200.  The problem is finding one.  However, I called Osbon and they said that the "Classic" is just as effective as the more expensive "Esteem" model.  The "Classic's" warranty is for a shorter period than the "Esteem."

I'll be darned if I can see any difference between the high priced pumps and the more moderatatly priced.  I looked at all the pictures and read all the descriptions and then decided to buy one on-line for about $60.  It works just fine.  I ordered the manual pump.  I had visions of an "out of control" electric pump motor attacking my precious privates.  There seems to be so little we seem able to control in our lives, so I thought a manual pump was one of them.

I do have an active imagination. It might be nice to hear from experienced users that the electric pump is ok (or not)  lol

My husband and I have further researched the vacurect system as an option for us and found that the Fitzz group is a 3rd party rep for the Vacurect. If you go to www.Bonro.com or call 866-692-6676 this will get you directly to the manufacturer and they are the ones who will do all the support for the product also. We liked this as an option instead dealing with a 3rd party.

You had mentioned in the above message that you received a couple of "Better Sex" dvd's from Sinclair Institute.  Have the content of the dvd's helped regarding someone with ED?

And are they as descriptive with folks like you and I or are they simulated actors?

Regarding dvd's...   They are both slanted towards improving communication and sex for couples in the 40+ range...  and we actually found them informative and tastefully done...   Used a variety of couples mostly in the 40+ age group who appeared to be quite natural.   dvd's formatted in a series of chapters regarding all phases of sex between couples, foreplay, positions, techniques, communication, ...    There are also optional sections on the dvd menu to discuss some of the more non-traditional forms of sex between couples.

The overall theme was to not let sex for a couple to become stagnant and routine,  but to keep it fresh, adventuresome, and healthy thru our later years.   ED subject was covered to a degree in some of the chapters and a few suggestions made including easing the tension of it between a couple.  Overall,  it does provide a definite opportunity to enhance discussions on the matters of sex between a couple and in that case could be another helpful tool in the overall recovery process for some couples.
